How Growth And Development Shapes Our Maturity and Aging #258

in Ladies of Hiveyesterday (edited)

Hello #ladiesofhive, I trust your day is going well. We have two interesting topics this week, but I would like to focus on the second topic, which says;

2️⃣ When we hear the phrase: "Aging is an obligation, maturing is a choice," do you agree? Do you think aging is an obligation? Do you think maturing is optional?

I completely agree that age is an obligation because, once we are born, we start aging from that day. It does not revert to the status quo but will always move upward. Our age starts counting from that day to the day we complete the count.

Hence, aging from our birthday continues to evolve naturally, starting with our infancy and metamorphosing to other stages of life like enrolling in schooling, graduating, and going into adulthood, and finally, the elderly stages of life, where we start noticing grey hairs and having wrinkles. Strength to carry out tedious tasks begins to reduce, making aging an obligation we owe ourselves. At that point in life, some will change their diets or live on special diets.

It is expected that as these developments occur, we will mature alongside them. However, it does not happen that way for some people. This is because maturity is a choice. Choosing to live healthily, stay peaceful, add value, and impact lives are some options in life. It is not forced. For me, as I grew and developed into adulthood, there are some characters I dropped. I chose to do things differently and live a lifestyle that befits me. I adjusted as I developed. In the same way, I also noticed that my level of thinking improved and deepened over time.

I have managed people from various backgrounds. Sometimes, you find out that some older people are not mature by the way they reason and make decisions. When such people give suggestions, you will want to rebuke them for making such unreasonable suggestions. On the other hand, some older people are seasoned persons, very mature in mind, character, and competencies. Meaning they all chose to live differently.

I recall recruiting an engineer and a technician to work with us in our firm. While the engineer is older and in his early fifties, the technician is in his late thirties. During strategic meetings, the younger technician makes meaningful suggestions than the older one. When you compare their personalities, the younger one behaves better than the older one, with great managerial competencies and a mature way of reasoning.

Furthermore, the major reasons for variances in maturity stem from the different levels of exposure and the choices individuals made while growing up. This might be in training, certifications, or academically.

In conclusion, aging occurs naturally with irreversible stages and times in a lifetime, while maturity is a result of the choices we make in life.

Certainly, aging is an obligation for ourselves, as you say, while maturity is the result of the decisions we make in life, and according to each person's personality, as you describe in the example you give us. Thank you for sharing your experiences,
