Holidays in this part of the world is a period of rest
It's a time where we go on vacations just to rewind, settle down and get things done.
But this narrative changed since when I became a tertiary institutions students (undergraduate).we no longer observed the holidays as it's ought to, because ahhh, after flexing throughout the holidays, you'll returned broke. Sometimes we don't even observed the holidays cause, the school calendar at sometimes was messed up.
So everyone was trying to see how to get things fixed inorder not to be left behind.
But somehow, my friend and I during one of the holidays that lasted for just two weeks, we had in mind to work so when we return we won't be broke at the beginning.
Since it was a short break, we decided not to travel to our base and still stay in school town.
Cause by the time you travel and return and then your parents promised to send you money month's end, that when you will understand that you are in Nigeria.
So during this holidays, a parents invited my friend and I to be their children home teacher and also help look after them until they returned from work.
Since their work schedule was always very tight.
So we accepted the offer, the deal was supposed to be for a month, but we gave them our conditions and they agreed.
Long story short, we started work the following week without any further hesitation. I won't lie at the beginning it was looking tiring and discouraging. I mean something I haven't done before, and also the fact that I sacrificed my resting periods.
But then, as annoying as this was, I learnt a whole lot from that place.
That place gave me my first experience as a teacher. And as the days goes by I enjoyed every bit of the teachings.
From them not knowing a particular thing to knowing it gives me that inner joy.
When the parents returned they applauded us for a job well done. The review was that thier children has changed both in their behaviour and academic perspective.
I didn't only teach about the four walls of education, I made them see life as it ought to be.
After the one month, they parents were pleading with us to continue but I just can't because me too wanted to be babied by my parents.
