I've learned something new about this African culture, and seeing another post, I realize that smoked fish is quite common in African dishes. Oh woah, yes , preparing the African Salad requires attention to details. But as you rightly noted, one can prepare it by just trying it. Some miss it at the point of mixing the potash and oil to form the sauce which is the only critical task.
