We live in an era where personal values have diminished, overshadowed by bad behavior, selfishness, and all the evils that have escaped from Pandora's box.
However, I still see hope in those who do the right thing, who act justly at all costs.
However, this is not always the case. Economic hardship and political and social crises can affect people's psyches to the point where they betray their principles and ethical and human values.
I understand that.
I don't agree with it, but I can understand it, even more so if they act with remorse. Extreme pressure sometimes breaks even the best will. That's what happened in the screenshot I shared with you.
But there's another case, more serious and more common. However, many people who are at their peak physical and psychological capacity know what is right, what they should do, and choose to ignore it in order to act in their own self-interest.
There is no hunger to excuse them, nor fear to justify them. There is pure self-interest.
They know that lying is wrong, but they do it to gain an advantage. They know they should speak up, but they remain silent to avoid causing themselves problems. This is the basic corruption, the one that begins at the individual level.
And that is the core problem. Society begins to corrupt when people know what is right but don't practice it.
Decay doesn't begin with bad laws; it begins with good citizens who choose to look the other way. Every time someone chooses self-interest over what is just, they weaken the social fabric. They normalize dishonesty.
That's why good, just people aren't those who say what is right, but those who act accordingly.
Talk is cheap.
Action is what counts. Your character isn't defined by what you approve of in theory, but by what you defend in practice, especially when it costs you something. It's easy to be honest when there's no temptation or cost.
This is my firm conclusion: knowing what is right and not doing it is the worst kind of cowardice. It is a betrayal of yourself and others. It is not enough to understand justice: you must have the courage to live by it.
That courage is what separates a person of principle from a person who only has opinions. Doing the right thing at all times is not being naive; it is being consistent. It is the daily decision that your comfort, your popularity, or your profit are not worth more than your integrity.
That is the only thing that, in the long run, builds a life and a society worth living in.

Vivimos en una época donde los valores personales se han visto disminuidos, opacados por los malos comportamientos, los egoísmos y cuantos males escaparon de la caja de Pandora.
Sin embargo, aún veo esperanza en aquellas personas que hacen lo correcto, que actúan con justicia a toda costa.
Sin embargo, no siempre es así. Las carencias económicas y las crisis políticas y sociales pueden afectar la siquis de las personas hasta el punto que traicionen sus principios y valores éticos y humanos.
Eso lo entiendo.
No lo comparto, pero lo puedo entender, aún más si actúan con remordimiento. La presión extrema a veces quiebra hasta la mejor voluntad. Es lo que sucedió en la captura de pantalla que les compartí.
Pero hay otro caso, más grave y más común. Sin embargo, muchas personas que se encuentran en su máxima capacidad y condición física y sicológica, conocen lo que es correcto, lo que deben hacer y deciden ignorarlo para accionar en aras de sus propios intereses.
No hay hambre que los excuse, ni miedo que los justifique. Hay pura conveniencia.
Saben que mentir está mal, pero lo hacen para ganar una ventaja. Saben que deberían hablar, pero guardan silencio para no causarse problemas. Esta es la corrupción básica, la que empieza en lo individual.
Y ese es el problema central. La sociedad se comienza a corromper cuando las personas saben lo que es correcto, pero no lo practican.
La decadencia no empieza con leyes malas, empieza con ciudadanos buenos que deciden mirar para otro lado. Cada vez que alguien elige el beneficio propio sobre lo que es justo, debilita el tejido común. Normaliza la deshonestidad.
Por eso, las buenas personas, las justas, no son las que dicen lo que es correcto, sino las que actúan como es debido.
El discurso es barato.
La acción es lo que cuenta. Tu carácter no se define por lo que apruebas en teoría, sino por lo que defiendes en la práctica, especialmente cuando te cuesta algo. Es fácil ser íntegro cuando no hay tentación ni costo.
Esta es mi conclusión firme: saber lo que es justo y no hacerlo, es la peor de las cobardías. Es una traición a ti misma y a los demás. No basta con entender la justicia: hay que tener el valor de vivirla.
Ese valor es lo que separa a una persona de principios de una persona que solo tiene opiniones. Hacer lo correcto en todo momento no es ser ingenuo; es ser coherente. Es la decisión diaria de que tu comodidad, tu popularidad o tu ganancia no valen más que tu integridad.
Eso es lo único que, a la larga, construye una vida y una sociedad en la que valga la pena vivir.
