I used to have a Volkswagen Bug that had such the oil leak, that you had to put 5W20 oil in it (super thick stuff) because once the engine heated up, even that tended to pour out a bit. I did that for quite a while (should have bought some stock in the oil company🙄) Eventually, I think we pulled the motor and put another one in.
I'm glad your car got your safely to your destination and back. There is nothing more worrisome than having that happen when you're out in the middle of nowhere!
