My first sourdough bread I've ever made

in Ladies of Hive3 years ago

I recently wrote about making the first sourdough of my life. Yesterday was the time to bake my first bread! I’ve made bread and cakes many times with yeast, which is much simpler but tastes different. I’ve heard that breads made with sourdough is much tastier and healthier.
This is a small but looks pretty. And, of course, very delicious, and does not crumble.
The secret of good texture bread is good quality flour. However, I am not satisfied with the crust of the bread. Thin and very hard but not crispy.

This is the sourdough, named Vaska (a Russian name 😀), fed with wheat flour, white and whole grain

Vaska is full of bubbles, a little fluid and a little sour but it has a pleasant smell.

I mixed two tablespoons of the sourdough with half a glass of water, and mixed white pizza flour with a little salt.

I put the flour in the sourdough and water and kneaded it well.

I kneaded the dough until it became such a shapely ball. I covered it with foil and let it rest in a warm. Meanwhile, the sourdough bacteria worked nicely.

After 2 hours I kneaded it again and it looked like this.

Then I put it in a smaller dish and let it rest again in warm place.

Wow, that's great! Just formed the dough, put in a baking dish, covered and waited for an hour, then it was ready to bake.

Before baking, I sprinkled with water then a little semolina. The bread was baked for an hour or a bit more, at the temperature of 190 (25 minutes) and 160 degrees.

I'm not a person! I'm human!

Yum, I love bread!!!
Hmmm... it must smell good @kalemendra!

You did much better than my attempts.
I think I used too much flour or my yeast didn't completely activate.

Sourdough is cool, but there are a couple of more steps than with yeast, and thus, a bit more time-consuming... So, after a little while with sourdough bread, we returned to bread made with yeast once again! :) But, the bread you made sure looks good!
