I spent a significant time in my career as a Community nurse. I came to the conclusion that my clients were not only the elderly patients but also the primary caregivers as well. And such Caregivers are limited humans with their own needs. While my country's system recognizes this and provides Respite services, others don't. Perhaps close relative would be ideal to step in for you. That is why I think all members of the immediate family take an active role and that the entire responsibility should not be borne upon one caregiver.
