In Canada the most critical priority is warm dry shelter. The damp cold is numbing, effecting our ability to do much else. Water is plentiful. I can identify some edible foraging but food is much harder to find since the growing season is short.
The wilderness in my region of British Columbia have many identifiable landmarks such that I can navigate my way out without a compass.
