The Wrong Way to use Range Monsters

Introduction

Usually, you use range monsters as a backline. They cannot attack while in 1st position which makes them a really bad unit if once your opponents were able to breakthrough your tank.

What if I tell you that you've been playing this game wrong and there are monsters that should be played entirely differently. Spitting Camel is a ranged monster that is pretty useless that no one really uses. He has low damage, high mana cost and does not have any abilities that benefit your team.

In this battle, I will show you that this useless monster is actually a strong one as long as you use him and play him in specific matches. Need more proof? Read my article below.

Spitting Camel's stats are decent if you look at him as a tank. It's a bad monster if you look at him and treat him as a damage dealer. This is why Spitting Camel works as a passive tank in the 1st position despite him being a range unit.

Although True Strike is a good ability, it isn't important with Spitting Camel due to the low damage. He has no other ability as well so you can treat him as a unit without abilities.

💊 Abilities 💊

True Strike: [Attack Modifier] This monster's attack cannot miss, regardless of the speed difference, rule of combat and abilities applied on the board.

Pros

High Health. Due to the high health, even though Spitting Camel cannot attack while in 1st position, you can still use him as a damage sponge and a tank.
Can attack from the back. You have the freedom to use Spitting Camel on the back part of your team and he can attack from there because of the type of attack he can provide.
Can deal consistent damage. Even though Spitting Camel has range attack, it can deal consistent damage because of True Strike ability.

Cons

High mana cost.
Spitting Camel has high mana cost for the amount of damage and value it can provide. This unit isn't efficient especially if you just want an extra tank in the 1st position.
Low damage.
Spitting Camel has 1 damage only. It's also a range attack which means it cannot bypass armor which can stall the death of the enemies.
Limited usage.
Except for some very limited rule or situation, I don't really use Spitting Camel since it doesn't give that much value.

	^{Close Range}	All range monsters on the board can attack while in 1st position targetting the opponent's monster on the 1st position: Close Range ruleset removes the limitations of range units being unable to attack while in 1st position. This fixes some of the weakness of Spitting Camel
	^{Armored Up}	All monsters gain +2 armor for this battle: If you use Spitting Camel as a tank in this ruleset, the extra armor from Armored up ruleset can be beneficial for you. Do not use Spitting Camel as a damage dealer in this ruleset. Instead, use magic damage that bypasses armor.
	^{Back to Basics}	During this battle, all monster's abilities are disabled: Since Spitting Camel's ability isn't really that useful due to the low damage, he can still function even without the ability.

	^Equalizer	The Max Health of all monsters on the board will be equal to the Max Health of the monster with the highest max health: In Equalizer ruleset, damage is the most important since everyone gains max health based on the monster with highest health on the board. With only 1 damage, Spitting Camel is just a liability in the battlefield especially since he cannot attack while in 1st position.
	^{Aim True}	All monsters cannot miss their attacks: Spitting Camel already have True Strike ability and does not gain any benefit from battling in an Aim True ruleset.
	^{Fire & Regret}	All monsters on the board gains the Return Fire ability that inflicts half the damage to monster with range damage attacking this monster: Close Range ruleset removes the limitations of range units being unable to attack while in 1st position. This fixes some of the weakness of Spitting Camel

	^{New Beluroc Aegis}	New Beluroc Aegis has Taunt ability that can help with Spitting Camel in making your frontline solid.
	^{Frostguard Warrior}	Spitting Camel can be used as a front to keep range units safe. You can use him in the 2nd position during Target Practice ruleset to act as a tank keeping your true damage dealers like Frostguard Warrior safe.
	^{Water-logged Wizard}	Water-logged Wizard has low health so Spitting Camel is a good unit to tank for it. These two complements a lot because they can work well in Back to Basics ruleset.

This is a makeshift team composition that really worked well. Briar Patch ruleset does not allow me to use melee tanks and Back to Basics limited my useful units alongside the low mana cap. Spitting Camel works really well in this situation as a tank because of the decent health and since he cannot attack and is a range unit, he is also unaffected by Briar Patch ruleset.

Lineup

^{Marlai Singariel}

I needed themagic damage boost from Marlai Singariel in this battle. This allowed my two magic damage unit to deal a decent damage while Spitting Camel acts as a tank.

Since Spitting Camel cannot attack and is not a melee unit, he can work well in Briar Patch ruleset. The decent health is enough to act as a tank in Frontier Mode as well.

^{Water-logged Wizard}

Since there are no abilities allowed, it doesn't bother Water-logged Wizard who doesn't have abilities in the first place.

^{Lunaki Howler}

Lunaki Howler is just a slightly better Water-logged Wizard and a complementing unit for Marlai Singariel.

In this battle, both Briar Patch and Back to Basics ruleset messed with all of my lineups. My tanks are usually melee units which is bad with Briar Patch ruleset's Thorns and those that aren't can be one shot by any mages. I have to be creative and make sure I still get a good tank despite these limitations and Spitting Camel was a good fit in this situation.

This battle was also the first Frontier Mode battle I did. Frontier Mode is very unique as it feels like playing on a limited but fair battlefield. No one can rent higher leveled or stronger Foundation monsters and summoners so everyone just plays with level 1 cards.

There are also some level 2 teams I was matched in afterwards but the difference is not game-breaking making the battle still winnable. In Frontier Mode, you will really get tested on your game knowledge. The game will test how good you are with the teams your can produce and also how creative you can be to win through the difficult rulesets.
