I just asked my mom about the gun powder, she said it's also part of the tradition that after the groom has done everything that is required of him, a gun is shot on the ground to congratulate him...so the gun powder!

Anyone found to be in possession of a highly explosive compound would be immediately reported and arrested in Canada. My Government seems to be very afraid of guns. Thanks for clarifying that, fireworks may be a good substitute for a wedding celebration. However, in Canada I must get a license and have appropriate fire prevention equipment on hand. The bureaucracy is going to drive me crazy here.

It is also illegal to handle guns in our country, but when it comes to these tradition even the government doesn't interfere! They just make sure the gun is not used to harm anyone.
