Digging Out

in Ladies of Hive3 years ago (edited)

Over the last three weeks, Chicago has had 40.1 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm on Monday/Tuesday dumped 18 inches in the neighborhood my kids live in and they have been sharing snowy photos with me.

Everyone is busy digging out.

I'll bet it feels like walking through the Grand Canyon for those who are only a foot tall!

Whoa!!! I would want to go to work in those conditions!
It can be challenging!

The temps are supposed to warm up next week, but it will take a while to melt that much snow. I only hope it melts slowly or we will have flooding issues!

Ha! We have a lot of snow! 😁

Its really terrific snow of your country in winter season.

We do get plenty of snow, but we expect it and are prepared.

Ah splish splash driving season approaching soon, splashing the people on the sidewalks, splashing the other cars, hitting those big puddles to make a big splash. Fun times ahead.

All that snow will make a lot of puddles, for sure!

Wow.... it's pretty and all.... but I wouldn't like to have the same here.

What an adventure for them !

It does create a mess to deal with in the city!

That’s a lot of snow to fall making it hard to navigate. I saw on the news your country is getting snow and cold weather in places that haven’t had to deal with these wintry conditions.

Ella took lovely shots showing how deep it is.

I think it is particularly hard in the city when there is no place to shovel it to and no where to get the parked cars out of the way. The good news is that it's supposed to get about freezing next week! A real heat wave!

We were in Charlottetown after a big snowfall and an excavator was loading up dump trucks with snow off the streets. They take the snow out of the city to make room.

Glad you will be in a heat wave Melinda with about freezing temperatures.:)

They load out the snow here when the piles get too big. I'm sure they must do that in Chicago, too.

I'm really ready for some milder weather. This has been a brutal stretch of cold.

I'm worried about Janton. Texas is really hurting right now. Usually I hear from him frequently, but not a word in several days I suspect he is without power and I know he has electric heat. I hope he is staying warm.

I was also wondering how Janton was doing. I haven't heard from him in a long time. He used to post a comment once in awhile on my posts.

This is terrible. The pandemic was bad enough and now the weather is making life harder for folks not used to the extreme cold. It was on the news this A.M. there are 33 dead in Texas because of the bitter cold and no power to keep warm. I hope he and his wife are okay.

There was an email from him this morning. He has had electricity until yesterday when they started doing rolling blackouts. The town's water pipes froze up so they were without water for a couple days. His stepdaughter works at the local truck stop and the lot is jammed with semi trucks because they can't pump fuel when they don't have electricity and all of the diesel is gelled up. They can't let people in to use the restrooms because without electricity there sanitation system does not work , so many truckers have been using the woods out behind the truck stop. Many people have been sleeping in their cars to stay warm and then they go to the gas station when they run their cars low on gas and realize that the pumps don't work without electricity.
I told him he needs to write this up in a post, but I doubt if he will. It is supposed to begin warming up there in a few days.

Wow I hope it warms up before more people freeze to death. They are in no way prepared for this kind of weather.

Thanks for letting me know how @janton is doing in this situation. You had a good suggestion for him to write up the happenings surrounding this unprecedented cold and power outages.

Prayers and blessings to him and Texas.🙏

It must be very annoying and frustrating to wake up and find that everything is snowed under. I am glad that won't happen here.😊

It can certainly be challenging if there is somewhere that you must be! That much snow would result in school and many other things being cancelled and then you would have a surprise vacation day. Schools always plan some snow days into their calendar, and as a kid there is nothing better than having your mom come in and tell you that you do not have to wake up because school has been canceled!

Yes, every kid would like to hear that school is cancelled. 😊

Beautiful pictures, I imagine it gets rough living in that but I find snow beautiful.

It is beautiful when you don't have to be out in it!

That's a lot of snow.
The temps in Chicago are fit for a polar bear.
With so many people without electric, how are the making out.

They have not been without electric and I haven't heard of anyone else around here being without but we are all always just one more fiasco away from that happening, aren't we?

good news for now, for sure.

This is really a lot of snow

We got three more inches last night. It keeps piling up!

This is real winter there. I should not complain for what we had, it was just a dust.

I hope it melts slowly so that we do not have flooding.

I remember once we had so much snow, it was carried to the sea to prevent flooding.

They do that here, too, when the piles get so big that you can't see around them and they block visibility at intersections or when there is simply no more room to pile it up. It gets loaded out onto dump trucks and carried to the river.

OMG...That looks like the North Pole even though it looks awesome , i couldn't handle those conditions no way give me the sunshine and the bit of cool weather i am fine with that.

Snow is great to look at through the window! 😁

Oh that it is 😇

Wow! Your snow is much higher than ours!

And it keeps snowing! We got another 3 inches last night.

OMG, so much snow! 😱 I am so glad I don't live there! Hope your family is doing okay despite that pile of snow and cold weather!

We are going to have a mess when it all melts!
