Meditation is believed to be a vital ancient practice which roots back to thousands of years, the exact source or origin can’t be pinpointed as any written record is unavailable. Since the beginning of the civilization people used to practice spiritual rituals resembling meditation. Over time this practice evolved and spread throughout the world. Later it was considered important part of world’s major religions, each adapting it according to their cultural and spiritual beliefs, which is still practiced to the date.

Meditation is still considered very beneficial for human kind. People still practice it to combat lots of mental and physical health issues. It is proven beneficial according to medical science too. Following are few of the important benefits of meditation.

Meditation heals depression and stress:

During meditation you train your brain to stay focused and learn to stay present instead of dwelling on negative thoughts. You don’t battle with your brain but know your mind and untangle it. Focus on things which are good in your life and try to relax. This helps brain to disconnect from the regions of neurons in your brain, which is responsible for negative thoughts which leads to decrease stress level and calm you down.

Meditation and intelligence:

Meditation has positive effect on enhancing your intelligence. It strengthens neuron network which is responsible for learning and memory. This would result in facilitating your learning capabilities and increasing knowledge retention. It can also improve your emotional intelligence, which leads to better emotional control and satisfaction in your daily life. This will impact positively to the quality of your life.

Meditation and insomnia:

Meditation can help people struggling with insomnia and promote better sleep patterns thus enhancing your overall wellbeing. Meditation helps calm your mind and body, making it sleep easier. Regular meditation is said to improve sleep patterns and you can attain better quality sleep. Removing the common barriers of stress, anxiety and depression and relaxing your mind will improve your sleep. Once you sleep better it will impact positively on your productivity.

Kindness and empathy:

Meditation will fill your heart with kindness and empathy towards others. Through Mindfulness meditation you can control your emotions and you become less judgmental and feel compassionate toward others. There is a kindness and compassion meditation which brings long term behavioral change in you. A happy person can have good impact on society, which would improve one’s wellbeing and satisfaction, thus effecting positively on their relationships and interaction with other people.

Mindfulness with meditation:

Learning to stay focused on the present moment and paying attention to one’s surrounding would improve their attention span and stop mind wandering. It would train to control one’s thoughts, emotions and expressions which will give them experience of the moment to moment basis. They will feel living in the present moment.

In todays stressful world when people are suffering through lots of mental illnesses, one should practice meditation to benefit its long term results to improve their health and lives.
