This week @ladiesofhive Contest I am going to answer the question on Women's Rights and Safety in my Country.
Between the two Countries that I live India and Oman, I can say that both the places I feel safe and not only safe but empowered also. If I have to talk about Oman, the City of Muscat where I live, first of all the crime rate of this Country overall is very negligible. In all the 7 years of living in this Country I have never heard of a single rape case. Whereas India it's a different story, almost every day you get to hear of rape stories. Not only rapes but from overall safety and security standpoint for a women I find Oman a very safe country to live.
Being a Middle East Country many people have this misconception of Oman being one of the conservative places, but the truth is that there are no restrictions for women here. Women have as equal rights as men in this country and in terms of clothing also one does not have any limitations. That is a different thing that we respect the culture of this place and try not to go too loud. Just yesterday I had gone for a movie and I saw that in this Mall where the movie theatre was had a whole special floor parking only for women. In this Country as far as my observance goes Women have been given equal rights and encouraged in all the fields. But incase if there is any issue or harassments that a woman faces of any kind then they can immediately report to the Ministry and Police and they take actions. No one gets away with that.
Now here there is a little glitch but that is a very different reason altogether and nothing to do with violating a women's right. Expats females do not get jobs very easily here, the reason being they want to give jobs to their own local people. When a man gets a job here, it is obvious that he will also get his wife, and the ministry does not want to give away 2 jobs to the same family and deprive their own local people in getting jobs. As it is, it's a small Country with limited jobs and opportunities. So sometimes I think that's quite fair.
Now talking about India, many foreigners feel scared to travel to India, because they feel it's not safe and crimes happen every time. But that's not true, it's accepted that the crime rate is high, but then look at the population, poverty, unemployment rate, illiteracy rate, considering all of this the crime rate is going to be high. But there is equal support from the governments to fight on this. In Mumbai city, now if a female has to be reached out to for any legal investigations, then only a female police officer can do that. There are special helpline numbers to reach out to for assistance. Like in Mumbai the helpline number for women is 103 or 1298 and in India overall it is 1091.
And then I also believe that when a women knows that there can be a potential threat in some places then I feel it's best for them to avoid or take precautions before venturing in such areas. This is a vast topic, but today I am only righting about the safety of Women in these 2 Countries. I know for India there can be a lot of debate as it goes with each one's experience.

We will not know how life actually is in many parts of the world. It's always good to learn about different cultures and lifestyle and the shortcomings of the place. Thank you
Safety is very important in a country and the awareness of a particular situation. It is good for the people in the country to know what their laws is and how it protects them. Those that are victims need to know the next step and action to take. How they can also avoid it from reoccurring again is key.
Yes, it is important that we understand the laws of our place and also have the emergency contact numbers at hand. We do not pay attention to these things in life unless we get hit by something.

Because of you I'm knowing more and more about Oman. It's good to know the likes of us aren't taken for granted and mistreated in some places. I feel sorry for Indian women though and I stand with you on their being intentional about where they tread and their ability to implement safety precautions. Thanks for sharing.

At the end of the day it's best to be in control of our own-self and keep ourself safe. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. When Country laws are concerned there is not much that we can do specially as an expat. So we need to find out our own solutions in such cases
