My new business project: an online book store. (EN with UA language)

Today I decided to join Ladies of Hive Community Contest #90.

I will tell you about my project, which I started with a friend in June of this year. Therefore, the topic of the week suits me.

I have always dealt with websites in my work. And for the last 4 years, I worked in a bookstore. Therefore, the topic of books is very close to me, because I have met thousands of books while working in our store.

After leaving for France, I ended up here with my children and no opportunity to get a local job (since I don't know the language and I am here alone with my children, there is no one to look after them). But I also have a friend here who has common interests with me - books. She is very fond of reading, has a wonderful home library and has lived in France for over 15 years, so she knows well the specifics of business in the country.

We decided to create an online bookstore of books in France, but books in the Ukrainian language. Now there are thousands of Ukrainians in France, as well as in many European and other countries. Mostly people left Ukraine with one suitcase, in which they put their whole life. The most important thing in a suitcase is documents. There was no talk of any toys or books. People left all the books in Ukraine. But our publishing houses do not stand still, and despite the difficult situation and hostilities in some regions, books continue to be published! Ukrainians really want to read news or read Ukrainian in a foreign country. Most of our potential customers are mothers with children. Because children also need to read, and they don't know foreign languages that well yet.

So, at the initial stage, we chose a name for a long time. We didn't want banal names like "Books" or "Reading". We thought for a long time and named the store "Krapka" (en: "Dot").

Then we went through the difficult phase of buying a domain and hosting in France. I felt how much faster service in these matters is in Ukraine than in France. After buying the domain, we could not start developing the site for almost 2 weeks! Maybe we were just unlucky, but due to such slowness, we had to buy a second domain from another company, and then we already started working intensively on the site.

How did we choose the assortment for our online store? We ordered about 200 books in Ukraine, which were delivered by a carrier from Ukraine to France. We carefully selected all the books, so that they were interesting books in the Ukrainian language, bestsellers or novelties. Emphasis was also placed on very good books for children.

Before finally launching the site, we took pictures of our entire available range and posted it on Instagram. The excitement for the books was very great. Our books were disappearing right in front of our eyes! Although France does not have very fast delivery, which is available in Ukraine, people bought and constantly wrote to us that they wanted the books that had already been sold, too. So, we started forming a new order for Ukrainian publishers, and this time we are buying even more books to introduce them to our assortment.

During this time we have gone through a lot. First, the registration of an entrepreneur, because our activity is completely legal and we pay taxes. Secondly, constant work on the site. Third, dozens of shipments per day.

Customers are satisfied, because in France they receive books from Ukrainian publishing houses, which they are so used to and love so much. We continue our work and want our assortment to please customers and we work efficiently and qualitatively.

I take a break from constantly sitting at the computer.

Сьогодні я вирішила долучитись до Ladies of Hive Community Contest #90.

Я розповім вам про мій проєкт, який я започаткувала з подругою в червні цього року. Тому тема тижня мені підходить.

Я завжди займалась сайтами у своїй роботі. А останні 4 роки я працювала у книжковому магазині. Тому тема книг мені дуже близька, адже я зустрічалася з тисячами книг, працюючи в нашому магазині.

Виїхавши у Францію, я опинилась тут з дітьми і не можливістю влаштуватися на місцеву роботу (так як не знаю мови і з дітьми перебуваю тут сама, за ними нема кому дивитись). Але у мене тут також є подруга, в якої зі мною є спільні інтереси - книги. Вона дуже любить читати, має прекрасну домашню бібліотеку і живе у Франції понад 15 років, тому знає добре особливості бізнесу в країні.

Ми вирішили створити інтернет-книгарню книг у Франції, але книг українською мовою. Зараз у Франції, як і в багатьох європейських та не тільки країнах перебувають тисячі українців. Переважно люди виїжджали з України з однією валізою, в яку вміщували все своє життя. Найважливіша річ у валізі - це документи. Про якісь іграшки чи книги й мови не йшлося. Люди позалишали всі книги в Україні. Але наші видавництва не стоять на місці, і попри складну ситуацію і в деяких регіонах бойові дії, книги продовжують видаватися! Українцям дуже хочеться читати новинки або читати українською в чужій країні. Більшість наших потенційних клієнтів - це мами з дітьми. Тому що дітям також потрібно читати, а іноземні мови вони ще не настільки добре знають.

Отже, на початковому етапі ми довго обирали назву. Ми не хотіли банальних назв, наприклад, "Книги", чи "Читання". Ми довго думали, і назвали магазин "Крапка".

Потім ми пройшли складний етап покупки домену та хостингу у Франції. Я відчула, наскільки в Україні швидший сервіс у цих питаннях, ніж у Франції. Після покупки домену ми не могли приступити до розробки сайту майже 2 тижні! Можливо, нам просто не пощастило, але через таку повільність нам довелось купити другий домен в іншої компанії, і тоді ми вже почали інтенсивно працювати над сайтом.

Як ми обрали асортимент для нашого інтернет-магазину? Ми замовили в Україні близько 200 книг, які отримали перевізником з України у Францію. Всі книги ми добирали ретельно, аби це були цікаві книги українською мовою, лідери продаж або новинки. Акцент також робили на дуже гарних книгах для дітей.

Перед тим, як остаточно запустити сайт, ми пофотографували весь наш наявний асортимент і виклали його в Інстаграм. Ажіотаж на книги був дуже великим. В нас зникали книги з наявності на очах! Хоч у Франції немає дуже швидкої доставки, яка є в Україні, але люди купували і постійно писали нам, що хочуть ті книги, які вже продалися, також. Отже, ми почали формувати нове замовлення для українських видавців, і цього разу ми купуємо ще більше книг, аби представити їх в наш асортимент.

За цей час ми багато пройшли. По-перше, реєстрація підприємця, адже наша діяльність повністю легальна та ми сплачуємо податки. По-друге, постійна робота над сайтом. По-третє, десятки відправлень за день.

Клієнти задоволені, бо у Франції отримують книги українських видавництв, до яких вони так звикли і які так люблять. Ми продовжуємо нашу роботу і хочемо, щоб наш асортимент радував замовників і ми працювали ефективно і якісно.
