QUESTION:
Collecting objects is a hobby that many enjoy, often without even realizing it. Do you have a collection — big or small — that reflects your interests or memories? What is the most unusual or surprising item you’ve ever collected, and what inspired you to keep it?
ANSWER:
I am the kind of person who can never be a minimalist. I'm pretty sentimental, and I tend to keep things that may not be of value to others, but mean something to me. For one, I have this old shoe box which I tagged, My Memory Box.
These are primarily letters, photos, small stuff I got from friends, classmates, students, etc. throughout the years. Let me just show you a glimpse of some of them... :)
Photos from my ESL students from the English Academy.
Small cards and stuff from people. There's also my university tie and nameplate... and a dry rose given by one of the teachers in the academy I used to work for.
These are letters I collected over the years. Sadly, I don't get a lot of them anymore. XD
The letter above is the oldest one I have. It was given to me by my best friend when I was in third grade, around the early 2000s. I remember the school year was almost ending then, and I wouldn't be in the same school as her anymore because I was about to transfer to another school.
This is the latest addition to my collection. My bestie gave it to me on my birthday last month.
I find letters precious, even the short ones written on random paper. I got a bunch of them, especially from high school, since my friends and I used to exchange them. I still read them from time to time and drown myself in nostalgia. haha
Aside from letters, I keep drawings that my younger cousin and some friends gave me. Above are some drawings my younger cousin gave me when he was 6 or 7. He's turning 15 this year, and we sometimes work on his art projects together.
This was the latest artwork we both worked on together. Unfortunately, I can't keep it because he must submit it to school. haha
I keep these things for memory's sake. Maybe I'm just sentimental, but it's nice to sit down and read them from time to time and reminisce about those days.
As for my interests, I also keep some collections... although I didn't really intend to collect them at first.
Around 15 years ago, when I was in university, I bought some anime magazines. I wanted some updates about anime and related stuff. I wasn't aware of MyAnimeList then, and getting physical copies also excited me because I used them for drawing references. They just piled up, but I stopped buying around 10 years ago.
I have an anime merch and book collection. Originally, I only had a couple of them, but my besties increased my collection. The majority of the books you see are from my female bestie, and a lot of the small figurines were given to me by my male bestie. I'm lucky to have such supportive friends! :D
I couldn't throw away the chibi artwork I made to decorate our Christmas tree last year, so I placed them there. xD
Because of my interest in art and anime, my collection of art materials grew. It's not a lot, but they're all beneficial for me... not only in creating something, but also in keeping my mental health happy. :)
So yeah, these are the collections I keep that reflect my interests and memories. Thanks for reading and see you around! (^^,)/

While this might be regarded as luck but I am sure your caring nature has a lot to do with the behaviour your friends keep with you. You treasuring little things from your friends and family is a proof for your loving personality.
Well, I am amazed by your collection of various things. Going through them layer in our lives brings up memories to the surface and thus several emotions.
I am a kind of person wanting more space in my surroundings, so I don't keep many things. Nevertheless, there are certain things I am very regretful for throwing them away from 😶
Thanks for sharing your world of collection with us. !LADY
@tegoshei It is adviced that you mention somewhere in the post that all the images belong to you. While the fact is evident, mentioning them sets it official. 🙂
