Every person has a unique way of writing. Even when two people use the same pen and write the same sentence, their handwriting can look completely different. Some people write in large letters, while others prefer small and compact writing. Some have neat handwriting, while others write quickly and carelessly.
But why does handwriting become so different?
One important reason is the way we learn to write. When children first start writing, they usually copy letters from books, teachers, or parents. Over time, they develop their own movements and habits. The basic shapes may remain similar, but small differences gradually appear.
The way we hold a pen can also affect handwriting. A person who holds a pen tightly may produce different letters from someone who writes with a relaxed grip. The angle of the hand, position of the paper, and movement of the fingers can all make a difference.
Writing speed is another factor. Someone who writes slowly may create carefully shaped letters. A person who needs to take notes quickly may develop shortcuts, connected letters, or unusual shapes.
Our hands also develop muscle memory. After writing the same letters thousands of times, the movement becomes automatic. We no longer need to think carefully about how to create every single letter.
This is why someone's handwriting can remain recognizable even when they are writing quickly.
Mood and physical condition can sometimes influence handwriting too. When a person is tired, nervous, excited, or in a hurry, their writing may look different from normal. The letters might become larger, smaller, messier, or more widely spaced.
The tools we use matter as well. A pencil, ballpoint pen, fountain pen, or marker can produce very different results. Paper quality can also change how smoothly the hand moves.
Interestingly, handwriting has traditionally been used to identify documents and signatures. A person's signature is often highly individual because it develops from years of repeated movement. However, handwriting analysis should not automatically be treated as a perfect way to determine someone's personality or character.
Technology has also changed handwriting habits. Many people now type messages instead of writing them by hand. Students often use laptops or tablets, while adults may communicate mainly through phones and computers.
As a result, handwriting may become less frequent for some people.
Still, handwriting has not disappeared. Writing a note by hand can feel more personal than sending a digital message. A handwritten letter, birthday card, or short note can carry a sense of individuality that a typed message sometimes lacks.
Our handwriting is therefore more than a way to put words on paper. It is the result of learning, movement, habit, tools, speed, and years of practice.
Every person's handwriting tells a small story about how they learned to communicate.
And that is what makes an ordinary handwritten sentence surprisingly personal.
Thank you for your comment. We strongly suspected this for quite some time, but were not able to prove it with certainty. We created this community for women's voices, not the "voices" of AI software doing the writing for lazy people. ☹️

I studied old manuscripts and documents developing an appreciation for calligraphy, I found the patient exercise help me work around my issue with dyslexia since High school. Fine handwriting in the past is as much an art form as precise form of communication with clarity preserving the writer's thoughts, observations and conclusions well beyond their lifetimes.
Happy Writing @theindicators ✍️
