Looking for a woman who could fast for 6 months without meal? Talk about my mother.
I would say her religious belief is even more stronger than her traditional. I remembered the period of my grandma’s burial, the family were to perform some ritual as per tradition after the corpse is laid to rest, my mom strictly refused to partake because of her belief.
In her opinion, things like rituals is against her religion and it would surprise you to know that her refusal affected everyone's refusal in my family including my dad, no one dared attend the ritual part of the burial simply because my mom refused.
Even though sometimes we feel that she goes extreme in her way of thinking because of what she strongly believes in, we at the same time find ourselves fortunate to have a mom like her.
And that's because, when that woman goes on her knees to pray concerning your matter, there's always positive results that follows and so we don't joke with her in that aspect.
By the way, I wasn't exaggerating when I said my mom goes for 6 months fast at a stretch and I believe that's a major concern for my family and i. She sees it as a challenge and increases the length every year. Honestly, we're afraid that she might just wake up one morning and chose to fast for a whole year😪 and there's absolutely nothing we could do about that than to talk and talk and at the end make provisions for the fruits needed.

I believe she is woman of principle, standing by her beliefs and not allowing majority opinion affect are choices. Abstaining from such traditional rites also grants her children the privilege of staying out of it, I believe it is not just about are beliefs but also protecting her family from such traditional influences.

First, huge respect to your mother!!! may her tribe increase.
Second, interesting point about the fasts. Maybe you should have her speak to @dreemsteem who does some interesting fasts of her own. My two cents is that she probably understands her own body best. So if she is still healthy and she is smiling like in the photo then let her be. I have learnt this taking care of own mothers. My mother has moved to millets from rice and overall lost weight. But she is fine in her medical tests and she is active. So even though relatives try to make her and me feel guilty about her not looking fat, I let her decide how she wants to manage herself. Maybe after 5-6 years I will be even more hands on, but even then i will try and listen to her opinion of how she wants to be taken care of, just like we do with our mother in law currently.
Third, please ask ma'am to pray for us too next time she is on her news. I would not mind a bit of divine intervention to help with my father in law's stroke.

Oh my!! This a lot.
So well, my mom is an adult and do have a mind of her own and of course we couldn't stop her from her fast even if we care so much about her health and feel she's taking it too seriously, however we still show our support in whatever way it's needed.
