Hi Everyone,

Gotemba Factory Outlet is one of my favourite factory outlet in Japan. Gotemba Premium Outlets is one of Japan’s largest outlet with over 200 stores. You’ll find everything from high end brands like Gucci, Prada, and Burberry to sportswear brands we like including Nike and Adidas. There are also plenty of Japanese brands like Beams and Comme des Garçons and more. Many stores offer up to 70% off retail prices, and if you’re a tourist, you can take advantage of tax-free shopping. Some stores like Nike and Adidas will have additional discounts if you buy over a certain amount of items so watch out for this extra discounts. I have allocated a full day to make the most out of our visit.

Like many outdoor outlets in Japan, the layout of the outlet is designed to feel like a European-style shopping village. The outlet is designed with different sections, therefore it is best to get a map to see where you need to go for the particular stores you want to visit. The staff at many stores are multilingual though most of the time, we can get by with our little Japanese skills. Great way for us to practice them.

One of the best things about visiting here is that Mount Fuji is in the background of the outlet. On a fine day, you can see the mountain clearly, making this a fabulous photo from another angle. There’s even an observation deck where you can see the view. If you have kids, there’s a Ferris wheel and a small amusement area to keep them entertained.

Food option is limited in my opinion. We try to eat outside of usual lunch times so we could get a seat at the food court. The food court isn’t very big so if you want something small and don’t want to look for a spot, there are many snack and drink stores around the outlet to keep your tummy full.

It is best to go on weekdays, less crowds and lines. It is also best to go on a fine day as the outlet is outdoors though there are some covered areas outside each shop. Walking from one area to another outlet area is not covered which can be a pain if it rains.

We drove to the outlet but if you want to visit, it is around 2 hours from Tokyo by train and bus. You need to make sure to get to the bus stop early to make the most out of your time as it does take a long time to get there from Tokyo. In my opinion, it is a must to go here if you have time or love a great bargain.
