Just remembering the day Turkish president Erdogan visited Africa and everyone was commenting how clean Addis Ababa looked. As if the expectation was to see Erdogan visiting a place that looked more like a slum or refugee camp as "nothing happened in Africa for the last decades".

Relative stability gives no major news, so the "before" image is the one that sticks to outsiders.
Development happens wherever political and economical stability is achieved, but that is too gradual to become major news outside the continent.
