Hello dear friends, it's been a long time since I've been here, and that's because I've been very busy. I recently returned to my profession as a teacher and I'm currently teaching classes nonstop. However, I've kept doing what I love most: drawing. I don't do it as often as I'd like, but I do enough to keep my skills sharp. I've done a portrait of Michael Jordan, the greatest basketball player of all time, on white cardstock. I used black cardstock to give the image more drama. I hope you like it.
Hola queridos amigos, mucho tiempo sin venir por aquí y es que he estado muy ocupado, recientemente he vuelto a mi profesión de maestro y me encuentro full dando clases. Sin embargo, me he mantenido haciendo lo que más me gusta, dibujando, no lo hago tan seguido pero si lo necesario para que mis habilidades estén al día. He realizado un retrato en cartulina y color blanco de Michael Jordan, el mejor jugador de basket en toda la historia, lo hice en cartulina negra para darle más dramatismo a su imagen, espero que les guste.

To begin, I sketched Michael Jordan with very simple lines. I didn't do it the way I used to because I didn't think it was necessary to use guidelines. Instead, I started by outlining the edges until I completed the figure. Next, I gradually added volume to the drawing, especially to the face, where Jordan is shooting a free throw.
Para comenzar hice el boceto de Michael Jordan con líneas muy fáciles, no lo hice como antes porque no consideré necesario hacer líneas guías, en lugar de ello comencé directamente delineando los bordes hasta completar la figura. Seguidamente lo que queda es ir dando volumen a todo el dibujo agregando poco a poco los detalles, especialmente en el rostro, donde Jordan se encuentra haciendo un tiro libre.

You can see how I begin to add volume to the drawing, especially from the top of the head. I create the drawing in a cascading, flowing style. Here I'm using white wax crayon to lighten the skin tone slightly. Then, when I need to paint parts of the face where the light is stronger, I'll add white charcoal, and finally, white paint. This way you can see that I work with different color intensity for different situations.
Pueden ver como comienzo a darle volumen al dibujo, especialmente desde la parte superior de la cabeza, voy haciendo el dibujo en forma de cascada, fluyendo hacia abajo. Aquí utilizo el color blanco de cera, para hacer el tono de la piel solamente un poco iluminado, luego cuando tenga que hacer partes del rostro donde la luz sea más fuerte agregaré carboncillo blanco, y en última instancia pintura de color blanco. Así pueden ver que trabajo la intensidad del color de manera diferente para casos diferentes.

Now, to refine details on the face, I not only use white for the skin and to intensify the lighting, but also, in some very specific cases and opportunities, I use black, even though it's somewhat ironic since the background is black. In this way, there are moments where certain parts of the face cast very small shadows, which are difficult to highlight if you only have the black of the background, so it becomes necessary to use black in the right amount. This is how, in the eye area, some shadows give strength to the expression in Jordan's gaze.
Ahora, para afinar detalles en el rostro, no solo utilizo el color blanco para la piel y dar intensidad a la iluminación, también en algunos casos y oportunidades muy concretas utilizo el color negro, aunque sea algo irónico ya que el fondo es negro. De dotas formas, hay momentos donde ciertas partes del rostro proyectan sombras muy pequeñas, que son difíciles de resaltar si solo se cuenta con el color negro del fondo, por lo que se hace necesario poner color negro en la medida correcta. Es así como en la zona de los ojos, algunas sombras le dan fuerza a la expresión de la mirada de Jordan.

Next, as I mentioned at the beginning, I add the white charcoal color; you can clearly see the difference between the tones. You can appreciate how both drawing techniques create the effect of looking at a photograph.
Seguidamente como dije al principio, voy agregando el color blanco carboncillo, pueden notar muy bien la diferencia entre tonos. Se puede apreciar como ambas formas de dibujar crean ese efecto de estár ante una fotografía.

Then I paint the arms, applying the same technique as the face so that the highlights and shadows are clearly visible. I also paint the uniform, adding the iconic number 23 of the Bulls, the best team of the 90s. It's interesting how, little by little, after a few minutes, what was in my imagination begins to take shape.
Luyego voy pintando los brazos, aplicando la misma técnica del rostro para que las luce sy sombras se puedan ver muy bien. También voy pintando el uniforme, poniendo el gran número 23 de los Bulls, el mejor equipo de la década de los 90. Es interesante como poco a poco luego de algunos minutos lo que estaba en la imaginación va tomando la forma deseada.

To finish up, I'm adding details like the hands, trying to draw each finger individually as they hold the ball. I draw the ball and fill it in with color to give it size and volume. I go over the entire drawing again little by little from the beginning, and that's how it's finished.
Para ir finalizando voy agregando ya detalles como las manos, tratando de dibujar dedo a dedo como sujeta la pelota, la cual voy dibujando y rellenando con color para darle tamaño y también volumen. Vuelvo a repasar poco a poco todo el dibujo desde el inicio y así ha quedado finalizado.
What do you think of the drawing? I think it looks like a photograph, although I'm not a big fan of realism. I always try to maintain the essence of the characters I draw. Qué les ha parecido el resultado del dibujo? creo que se ve como una fotografía, aunque no soy muy fan del realismo siempre trato de mantener la esencia de los personajes que dibujo, siempre mi interés es seguir aprendiendo cosas nuevas, y para hacerlo siempre hay que reconocer aquello en donde fallamos. Tienes talento. A que edad comenzaste a desarrollar tus habilidades en el dibujo, y las artes?
The drawing is great, but I dont think that Snaps is a good place for such long content. You should probably make a post, and add tags like # art, # sketch, etc. Posting this on Snaps will not earn you as much as a full post can.
