Definitely. Being alone again can feel more frightening than staying emotionally attached to something that's already finished.
Some people probably confuse missing someone with still being meant to be with them.
That's an important difference. You can miss someone deeply and still know that being together isn't good for either of you.
I think pride can play a role too. They don't want to accept that the relationship failed.
True. Sometimes they're not holding on to the person as much as they're holding on to the story they wanted the relationship to become.
And some people simply haven't found anything that gives them the same feeling again.
