Yep, bears and cougars are always something to keep an eye out for in these woods. There are several lakes with lots of camp spots around and some roads to get you close. I was just passing by and took this from the road above one of the lakes.
Ah, cougars, I'd forgotten about them. I've gone backcountry camping where there were no roads and had to take a bear bag to hang the food from trees or hanging mechanisms, if available. Still, those bears are very clever and skillful up on trees, so there are no guarantees.
That sounds exciting! My camping adventures have never been very far away from a car and now it's been several years since I have camped at all. Will need to ease back into it slowly. ;)
