I needed 7 more CC of Kaylia Silverleaf to get her to level 3, which would have been around $7. So I just picked up one more copy of the GF for $8+ instead.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but if you are hoping for card value to appreciate over time, then have I got a wake-up call for you.
The best case would be a card becoming a WILD meta staple and retaining value after rotation. There's plenty of data about the alternative.
I think the same; cards that can actually be quite useful in the game tend to maintain their value.
Really I just hope it keeps its value as I use it for better battle payouts. I need every bit I can squeeze out in the lower levels.
But to your point about the Gold Foil, I think going for the GF option when it is less than 150% of the RF price is a no-brainer. They will definitely hold their value better than the RF copies!
Yeah, always buy the gold when it's not much more (or even cheaper) than getting the same level card in regular foil. At least with newer cards, when you don't have to worry about supply.
I choose GF cards for strategic reasons, mainly because of the 10% win bonus, for collecting (since these current versions are beautiful), and also because if I need to get rid of some cards in the future, they might still bring in some good money.
