so say a bunch of people upvote my snap, would it be charitable to then upvote my own snap after all of them? i thought that the early upvoters get more of the rewards if a bigger account upvotes after them? or would that be malpractice?

So, from what I understand, you were talking about doing a self-vote on your own snap, right? As far as I know, a self-vote isn't seen well in long posts or snaps, but of course you're free to do it or not, but it might be seen badly by some other whale on the hive.
Early upvoters: first 24 hours, but with the speed of Snaps, that's just about everyone
Can you self-vote: there is no rule against it, but it is generally seen as "rewards milking"
ah ha, so the first 24 hours - what? how does that work ?
This was a relatively big change from some of the later Steem forks -- the chain used to prioritize those who voted in the first five minutes, but that disadvantaged everyone who did not have a bidbot or an autotrail. So, a later Hive fork was coded for a 24-hour premium instead.
interesting. thanks for sharing your knowledge on this. i like knowing stuff like this but its information that is seemingly hard to find.
Somebody was putting together a Hive wiki -- I think it is called Propolis -- so, perhaps the need is being met.
The challenge about Hive is that there are few easily accessible spots to find out about historical changes ... we need a good historian, and a Hive community library, and that may not exist yet. I've just been around since Hive was Steem, so, I remember.
ive been around a while too but i didnt pay attention to the details or get involved with the devs really, back then
Self-voting is a bad look. Supporting commenters who actually engage with content is a better incentive IMHO. And no, this isn't a demand for votes on this comment! 😆
i get it self vote is abad look but dont the rewards get distributed to the people who upvoted the post first if a bigger account comes in and upvotes after them?
It does, but it also looks like you are rewarding yourself, because you are.
sometimes it feels good to reward one's self for a hard days work
Self-voting is generally frowned upon in all instances except for burn posts. Like the other poster said "of course you're free to do it or not, but it might be seen badly by some other whale on the hive."
Don't go with self-vote. 😖
noted!
Good to know.
I upvote content I find interesting, and expect the others to do the very same.
