She even jokes that if we did not feel this anxiety at all, we might drift into sociopathic territory. A little scary, but it makes sense, right?

I think people should just have less fear of interacting with each other. Being less shy doesn't mean you have to be less empathetic or caring of other people's wants and feels. But that's just my two cents :D
I think Michaela's situation was a bit extreme, but Thank God she is fine now. On the other hand, I agree with you, a lot of people are maybe just focused on their projects or just selective as to with whom to spend time. Who know, there are to many other possibilities.
