As we know that Indonesia is indeed synonymous with mystical things. Many Indonesian horror stories are circulating in the community and become a conversation for the next generation. Starting from urban legends, myths, occult, and others. So, don't be surprised if there are many scary stories that you can find in Indonesia.

Uniquely, every region in Indonesia has its own horror story. This is evidenced by the existence of various kinds of ghosts that come from certain areas and have been told from generation to generation.

Si Manis Jembatan Ancol (The Sweet Bridge of Ancol)

The first Indonesian horror story is Si Manis Jembatan Ancol. For those of you who grew up in the 1990s, it is no stranger to hear the story of a young woman who was found dead in the Ancol area. The legend of the people of Jakarta was even made into a film some time ago and several serials were made on television.

There are two versions of the story that developed about the appearance of Si Manis Jembatan Ancol. The first version tells of a girl named Maryam who lives with her mother in the house of a rich merchant.

The merchant was rationed in love with her beauty and sweetness, but Maryam refused and ran away. Maryam's escape was in vain, because she met a group of thugs who raped and killed her, then her body was dumped near the Ancol area.

The second version tells of a girl named Ariah, whose fate is not much different from that of Maryam, who will be married by a wealthy skipper named Oey Addsia. Ariah fled, but he was caught by Oey Addsia's right-hand thugs.

Although he had time to fight, but he could not fight because his strength was not comparable. In the end, Ariah died at the hands of the thugs and her body was dumped near the rice fields near Ancol.

Until now, a number of people claim to have seen the figure of Maryam or Ariah appear on the Ancol Bridge. He is described as having long hair and his presence is believed to be linked to a number of accidents in the area.

The scary story related to the presence of Maryam was experienced by Mbah Broto, a painter in the Ancol area.He admitted that the figure of Maryam was visited by him who asked to be painted, but he had not finished painting the figure yet.

Mbah Broto had time to chase and find him, but what he saw was the woman's body like flying from a distance.

This is a great horror story. This is definitely a series worth following as you explore and learn about Indonesia. I actually never knew there are such stories in Indonesia.

This is word of mouth, I've even seen the apparition, I don't even dare 😂

Yeah, I understand that. Words of mouth and the stories it creates. Recently, I wrote a post about beliefs that make no sense that spread in Iraq. Many of them actually did through word of mouth.
