Voting is the right and duty of citizens. They're expected to exercise this franchise. For some reason, some people choose not to vote during elections. Do you think then that voting should be made mandatory? And citizens charged to court and punished when they fail to vote?

No, I think there are people who should not vote. Uninformed people, for example, would vote without knowing what is at stake. Many people vote for a candidate because they like him, without knowing what they would do if elected.
True. People should be well informed about who to vote so they can vote competency not just who they like.
However, I think it digresses from the discourse here. Every citizen has the right to vote. Should that be made mandatory? That's the point. You made valid points though.
No. Once it's mandatory, then uninformed voters could unintentionally help elect a bad candidate. You can force them to vote, but you can't force them to read the news or make a good decision.
Okay. I see your point. I actually agree with you and that's what my blog post discussed. It's good to see we have similar views on this. Making it mandatory will only make things worse.
