Long waited release is here, we just released initial version of Ecency desktop application. This is continuation of Esteem Surfer application but better, faster, newer.
Reason why it took longer than expected because we wanted to make our https://ecency.com website feature full. So when new desktop application is released with new codebase, it could give you similar functionality right away. We are proud to say we are releasing initial version based on same codebase as our website. Going forward maintaining and developing new features will be efficient and releases will be in more harmony across the products. Our next goal will be to make mobile application also work in synergy. It already does work similar way and your bookmarks, drafts, etc is in sync with website and desktop app and mobile app. So let us tell you more about Ecency desktop application and why it is different and what's new...
What's new
- New codebase, based on https://ecency.com
- New brand, new name - note, this version will require new login, because of app name change and codebase changes, you will be asked to relogin with your accounts again.
- New Login - as usual we allow login with Hivesigner and standard login seemlessly only now standard login won't be saving your credentials on your device hence, extra encryption is not required. When you login with your keys, we generate hivesigner
access_tokenand use that for future operations. Hivesigner access token is used to secure your drafts, bookmarks and all custom data. Learn more how we are using access token to secure your data here - Multi-account management is one of the best feature Ecency has, so you have it by default.
- Communities, all community creation, management operations are now possible with desktop app as well.
- Easy and improved signups
- Wallet and Points management
- Fast and dedicate Search pages - Hint: type these into search bar
@to search user,#to search tags,$to search communities, any word to search for posts and comments. Same feature is already possible on https://ecency.com. - Overall, all features are available on website should be possible with desktop app even more, unique to your desktop experience.

OK. Just installed. Very smoothly. Everything works well and fast.
I miss the Hive Keychain to log in, and the promotion and boost buttons.
Can't wait to try it out. Was just shut off computer and getting ready to bed. Will do so tomorrow evening when back from work.

I've just installed it on Windows 10. Testing! Are there any differences between app and web versions?
They both use same codebase, only difference on desktop app, we added context menu, navigation bar where search field is used as address bar and image uploads are different and few other subtle changes
