Step-by-Step: Sign Up with MetaMask
1. Go to Ecency and Open the Sign Up Page
Head to ecency.com and click Sign Up. On the sign-up page, look for the "Sign Up with Wallet" option and click it.
2. Choose Your Username
Enter the username you'd like to use on Ecency. This will become your permanent identity on the Hive blockchain - choose something you'll be happy with long-term.
3. Connect Your MetaMask Wallet
Click the MetaMask connect button. Your browser will open the MetaMask prompt asking you to approve the connection to Ecency. Simply confirm the connection.
💡 Note: Ecency does not ask for your seed phrase or private keys at any point. You are only approving a connection - the same way you would connect MetaMask to any other Web3 app.
4. Quick Balance Verification
To confirm you're an active Web3 user (and to prevent spam accounts), Ecency performs a quick check of your MetaMask balance. If your wallet holds the equivalent of around $1 or more across any supported chain, you're good to go.
This is not a charge - it's simply a read-only verification.
5. Your Account Is Created Instantly
That's it. Your new Hive account is created instantly and permanently linked to your MetaMask wallet. You can now:
Log in to Ecency with MetaMask anytime
Publish posts and interact with the community
Sign transactions using MetaMask - no separate Hive keys needed
View and manage your multichain wallet balances directly from Ecency

When you sign up with MetaMask, Ecency automatically detects and links all the blockchain addresses associated with your MetaMask wallet - including Ethereum, Solana, Bitcoin, and supported Layer 2 networks. However, I need further information or clarification: I login to my Ecency account via the Ecency mobile app; if I choose to login via MetaMask, will I uninstall the mobile app? Secondly, logging in via Ecency mobile app is more comfortable than logging in via chrome browser: What is the experience like, logging in via MetaMask, compared to Ecency mobile app and chrome browser?
