If I was motivated by profit, I would not be here on Hive blogging because the profits are poor and the token depreciates.
If I wanted readership then I would not be here on Hive because there is no readership. None usually for most posts.
I am only left here on Hive after 8 years purely out of habit and because writing is a hobby I have always had, long before Hive.
I'm writing still, despite very little rewards because I have a tale to tell, and a book to write, and this is a good place to store my diary, journal and memoirs.
No one reads it, that's fine. It is my legacy and will be there when I'm gone, like the works of Van Gogh, who sold only two paintings in his lifetime.
I'm still here because I like crypto and blockchain and out of nostalgia for my idealistic days when I thought Hive might be something of value. Now I have given up that hope in Hive. It seems to be a dying blockchain.
I don't see growing numbers of adoption, or writers. Still I write because I can, it's therapeutic.
Hive is not the only weak project though. Most of alt coins and blockchains are dying a slow death this year. No user growth, no price growth, despite Hive and others being good concepts and projects generally.
The good old days of altcoins growing in value in the bull market, now this year, are over. Alts seem to be over. Only Bitcoin rules the blockchain now.
Still I echo my thoughts in this echo chamber, siloed away from anyone else, except maybe 3000 of us all around the world who blog post on Hive.
Hive is like a shiny object I find on the beach. It looks cute among all the other drab plain useless mass of sand. But it's worth very little, except to the eye of the beholder. It's a token gesture, meaning small and symbolic, more than anything really valuable.
Such beautiful technology, used by hardly anyone, never to gain its former glory or value. Yet we treasure the little thing because of sentimental value and habit.
If I was into making money, I would leave Hive, sell it all and buy something that will make me profit. But I am old and cling to what I know, and hope it will grow despite what I know and what it shows in its history of poor growth, adoption and price action.
Don't worry Hive, we still love you, all 3000 of us across the planet. Don't expect me to promote you to anyone any more though. You're a dinosaur, and only historians like me admire you.
Stockholm syndrome is a strange thing.
So today I write your eulogy for your grave as you die a slow death, not with a bang but with a whimper, as you slide into further and further insignificance for anyone.
Just my 2 Hive coins worth, and since no one reads this stuff, it means nothing anyway. I just write my thoughts to fill the time and the page and the legacy, like people write a journal or diary or free association diatribe and tirade on parade which no one attends.
There you go, gone with the wind. It was nice once, about 4 years ago, for a few months during the bull market peaks. And then for the other three and a half years its bad. Why should I lie?
But then that's crypto for you, up one year and down for three. It sucks because you get old waiting for something that never arrives. It's over for altcoins like Hive, a hollowed out shell of a project that pays pennies for your original work.
I like the concept of my work being date stamped as my own of course, for provenance and posterity. The tool of Hive blockchain is great. And for a poor third world hobo like me, a few pennies for my daily bread is fine.
The smart people are elsewhere. The financially savvy will not waste their time here... only kids on games and pensioners like me who don't care and have more time than sense, will carry on here.
If I wanted to make money in crypto I would go invest in something else, not Hive. I already lost so much of my fortune investing in Hive. That's why I stick around, like a mother baboon cradling her dead infant, nudging it with the hope that it may still gain life again, even though the obvious is staring her in the face.
Don't worry Hive, this is not only about you. The whole altcoin market is dying a slow death now. The days of altseason are over for now for all of us. Have comfort in the fact that you're not alone.

man i love your level of self-reflection and can relate so much to what you are saying here.
the saddest thing really is realizing nobody reads along. in ecency there is this eye symbol showing how many have looked at the actual post and its sub 5 for almost all posts. so i feel ya.
I am NOT here to convince you of anything, or to make you do stuff. But I do miss you and I have a sense of community again now that I started writing on Blurt. It feels very reminiscent of the glory days on Steem, and well, the reason I focus my energy there now is because I prefer the spirit.
Blurt gets a bad rep on Hive and the token is worth nothing, BUT the community and the people I did meet there feel like a community again vs. this empty wasteland of a social media phantom hive has become.
I just saw you have a blurt account, if you still have your old steem keys maybe come and log in, see if you get a better feel. I would sure love to have you over there in my feed where it feels like we are actually building stuff and not being bled dry financially and spiritually.
just my two cents of course. you and like 4 others are the only reason i even check my hive feed once in a while now. all the others i liked reading have long been mobbed off of hive.
i publish on both blockchains now but only put energy into blurt.
i also want to build a front end experiment but that is all still in the future.
anyways, many blessings to south africa brother!
Hey there my brother in spirit, I'm just replying now apologies for the delay. I appreciate your input and it's great to know that you read some of my posts. And the fact that you also see the same poor readership on Hive makes me feel less alone in the wilderness, so to speak, here on Hive. So I'm not imagining it, we both see poor readership and community involvement here.
I remember Blurt, though I've streamlined my life and simplified it so I'm not expanding much any more as age slows me down lol. I used to pursue any and every blockchain social media platform I encountered in my younger days of learning and trying everything. That chapter is over and I do much less now, retiring from so much activity basically.
Let me look for my Blurt details since you are there. it sounds like it could be inspiring.
Many thanks for your supportive words, a rare positive feedback here on Hive which is very encouraging.
Wishing you all the best.
and all my best to you brother.
how is south africa treating ya these crazy days?
I'm in the most beautiful part of the country at the coast, one of the last safe and functional little towns. The natural beauty and climate is world class, which makes up for the crime and collapse occuring in the rest of the country all around me. It appears to be going downhill here overall in South Africa on most fonts. Only the beach and nature, fresh air, loads of space keep me here.
for a time i seriously weighed driving down to south africa and start over there.
but it's too far. i also keep hearing how SA is going downhill, sad to hear it brother.
i will only drive down there if universe tells me to. for now we'll try portugal and see what comes up
2 years ago I noticed the weakness of HIVE and many altcoins. I bought HBD and I am waiting for HIVE to fall even more. Unfortunately, this is the objective reality. But I think that Hive will not die, it will be here for a very long time. And someday our descendants, blockchain archaeologists will find interesting finds here :)
Good point there Urri, Hive may be weaker in value now like many altcoins but the blockchain will continue and preserve our writing for future descendants to read. I would like to believe you are correct in this forecast.
