What the heck am I talking about? 🙂 I think it was last week when the "big AI boys" came out in public, expressing concerns about AI development in the world... How, even though they don't know how powerful AI could be, so that we should slow down the development a bit... One thing is to say things like that, and another thing is to follow your opinion... Usually, those things are not in sync; the rich and those in power say one thing and do another... I don't see it slowing down or stopping, but rather a trick to get gains over the competition...
But that's not the main topic of this post... My thoughts went a bit off-topic, but I got triggered by this tweet...
I think I was talking about this topic before, and how it looks like our "human intelligence" reached the top a few decades ago, and since then, it has been declining... Now, when I think back, I wrote about something similar after watching a fantastic comedy (is it?) movie Idiocracy with Luke Wilson and Maya Rudolph in the main roles... The worrying part of watching the movie was when I would recognize some of the "patterns" in the movie...

Maybe I'm just overreacting, or looking through negative eyes, or just being grumpy, but signs are all around us... Let me share with you a short story from a few days ago...
I was doing my daily walk when I like to observe "the world around me"... 🙂 Usually, that's birds in the sky, chirping sounds, cicadas in the grass, beautiful trees, etc. But to get to the "nature part", I have to go through the city...
A family was standing in the middle of the pavement: a man, a woman, and a teenage son... They were talking with a person on the 3rd-floor balcony... Okay, not talking, yelling... Unfortunately, everyone on the street had to "participate" as we couldn't "not hear" them... Adults were all into yelling, while the teenage son was picking his nose, holding a half-empty juice carton in his hand...
Suddenly, he became nervous, looking left and right, searching for something... And there it was: the perfect place to throw the juice box was right there, directly in the bush in front of the building! He even made an effort to throw it 3-4 meters! And no, the trash bin, which was LITERALLY BEHIND HIM, wasn't good enough! The important thing was that he had a perfect haircut, half a liter of oil in his hair, and some fancy clothes... Unfortunately, he didn't bring his manners with him... In those moments, I always remember the words of one of my teachers who would say: "The head isn't only made for a haircut!"
I'm having a hard time picking the right words now... Can you offend a pig by saying it's a pig? I know that this isn't maybe an example of the "intelligence debate", but you have to start measuring it somehow...
Recently, it looks like certain things trigger me more than others... Seeing people littering, or having no understanding for others, or just not caring about anything other than themselves, hurts me a lot... Where did we make a mistake?
Maybe those who invested time in AI development realized first that there is no help for us humans...

Spot on. :) Many subjects you touched upon, but first there is lot of misconceptions about AI..Dare to say that 95 percent of people have no clue what actually AI is. (Hint, just a huge databases, algorithmically driven and controlled within neural networks).
Training literally means, filling up databases with data.
Has nothing to do with "intelligence" as people concieve it.
Reminds me on the beginnings of Internet or social media. It took time when an actual understanding of technology took place.
And yes..any kind of intelligence, organic or artificial by definition is a threat to this civilisation. No doubt about it. :)
Good evening, @ph1102. Regarding the lack of respect for others, it seems endless... I don't know what else to say. As for AI, I’m currently forming an opinion on it... and at this stage, I think it can be a great tool. Regarding the warnings about its dangers, I believe the owners have a strong interest in remaining its sole owners... I can't think of much else to add.
