I picked up a heavy brownish rock that I believe is Silver… I was wondering if that’s what a Silver Rock would look like after being exposed to the elements for thousands of years…

@pocketechange
Wow! That's one awesome find if it really is silver! 😁 Where did you find it? Was it near some old mine? Have you already tried scratching it, to see what might be hiding below surface?
So far, all I did was dip it in Distilled White Vinegar… It looks different wet and dry and in different lights or Camera Flash… I picked it up decades ago, but I still remember the area…
This looks interesting... So you say that you weren't tempted to check it any further all this time? I assume you must've already checked if a magnet catches on it (silver is non-magnetic)? Other than that you could perhaps also try doing a water density test, or confirm the following:
Streak test: rub it gently on the back of an unglazed ceramic tile. Silver should leave a shiny grey streak while most regular rocks would leave white-ish/brown-ish.
Sound test: Silver produces a high-pitched ring when struck.
I won't recommend you doing the aluminum foil test mentioned above just yet, just in case that's some valueable ancient artifact you've actually stumbled upon 😁
This is what I recovered from the Vinegar…
I didn’t even mention what I discovered in another Heavy Rock I picked up in the same area…
As for the first photo, this definitely looks silvery-promising... I wish I could inspect it with a little more detail - do you have some higher resolution shots of these leftovers perhaps?
And as for the second pic - do you mean to say these are gold particles? It is hard for me to notice a glitter on them, but this might be due to lighting.
By the way - are you a precious metal collector? Or doing it as a hobby?
I’m into U.S. Collector Coinage… You should be able to zoom in to the photos I sent… What you see are tiny dry clumps of Microscopic Gold that haven’t yet been melted…
Ahhh, now I get it! Sorry for my ignorance 😅 Sounds like you've had some insane finds over the years... Thanks for bringing this to our little corner.
Just out of curiosity, did you make any money from these 'random finds' yet or do you treat this rather as a passion thing on the side? And as for the coin collecting - what's the rarest piece you have in your collection? And what's the oldest one?
Respects,
Mike
