It’s important to lock in profits. That million dollars your friend lost must have really hurt. Better capital management was all it would have taken.

Not only that he lost his investment, he lost now also his job. This show that one moment you can be the king of the hill and next you can go on a downwards spiral.
He's lucky as he still has some real estate investments and probably some funds put aside which will help with hopefully transition to a future job.
