Summertime Hydrangeas

I have lots of hydrangeas around the yard. Most were planted by the original owners of my house so they are well established.

This particular hydrangea is one we transplanted. It has had a tough life 😆 it was in front of the house on the north side and not getting much sun. Plus regularly getting eaten by rabbits. We moved it into a different bed with better lighting but now its getting eaten by deer 🙄

Panicled hydrangeas are planted on both ends of our house.

They have cone shaped clusters of blooms.

When they get wet, they often bend over from the weight. We got an inch of rain last night so these are quite heavy.

Here is a shot of the hydrangeas along the outer wall of our garage. These were planted probably 20 years ago and thrive here. We cut them back to the bare, woody skeleton each year and they grow probably 4 feet shoots with blooms on the end each season.

Here is the other end of the house with hydrangeas of similar age. Because they face southwest, they get better light and bloom first.

We also have this type of hydrangea on the back of the house.

Not sure what kind they are but they are different than the ones on the ends of the house.

They have a nice pink blush.

Heres a view of the whole shrub. There are actually 3 shrubs growing together.

Finally we have these hydrangea outside our screened in porch. They are lovely but not blooming this year. They have a pale blue bloom but have been finicky about blooming.

Thanks Melinda. We love them because they are so mature and established. We've planted so much since we moved here but it takes years for it to get where we want it, how we picture it when we plant it 🙂
