The days of Bakassi boys, many stories.
I heard, they have tortoise dangling on their neck,
That once they pass by a thief, their machete turns red.
I heard they can disappear.
Many says their master is a cripple, and they have to carry him around.

I never believed any of that.
I actually have a strong head then, and even now.

One Saturday morning, I have actually collected a few coins from my daddy's pocket.
You can call it stealing,
But what belongs to the head, also belongs to the tail.
After everyone had gone out.
I and my friend went out to squander a few coins.
We bought few cabin biscuits and banana gums.
We went upstairs to devour our spoils,
Then we heard some noise,
Coming out, we saw the Bakassi boys riding by in their famous 'Onu Azu' bus.
Our eyes met, it was as if they knew what I did.
The one in the back, swiveling his machete, his pupils piercing through mine, with the intent of searching my soul.
I have never been that dead scared.

Ojoko, the man they came for disappeared through the roof, was seen at the next compound, so did the Bakassi boys.
Then Ojoko wanted to turn into a bird, so he could fly away, but was dis-charmed.
He was caught and his head cut off and burnt there at the spot.

Well, that is what the men at a nearby pub was saying.
I trusted their words.
Elders then do bite on their words before they speak. unlike now when most of our elders are without teeth, so you won't blame them for not biting their words.

I don't know if you have ever encountered the Bakassi boys,
What was it like? .
