This month makes it my 3rd month on the HIVE BLOCKCHAIN PLATFORM and for sometime now, I have been seeing some HIVE ENGINE TOKENS on my keychain wallet account and I keeping wondering how majority of them came about.
The beauty in this HIVE BLOCKCHAIN DECENTRALIZED ECOSYSTEM,when you seek you shall find.
As I was scanning through the Hive, coupled with my research I discovered that these HIVE ENGINE TOKENS also known as "TRIBE or COMMUNITY" tokens are as important as my liquid HIVE,HBD(Hive Backed Dollar) and HP.
I have more than twenty of these tribe tokens attached with little rewards(balances) on my account as shown below 👇on the uploads.l knew about one or two,but majority I don't know how they find their way.
Here are some;

HOW THEY CAME ABOUT
When you visit HIVE ENGINE TOKENS,there are over a hundred of them.

They are called the layer-2 tokens on the HIVE DECENTRALIZED BLOCKCHAIN ECOSYSTEM.
As a newbie who has been exploring platforms like Ecency, PeakD, and other frontend platforms (where posts synchronizes across the decentralized network), you would likely earned them via content creation, community interactions, tips from other users, curation rewards, or staking dividends. Hive's system broadcasts activities blockchain-wide, so posting once can trigger rewards from multiple linked communities or bots without extra effort.
So the above is how they likely came about and me seeing them on my account.
And just as I treasure my liquid HIVE,HBD and HP,I am going to give them my utmost priority.
THE IMPORTANCE OF HIVE ENGINE TOKENS ON HIVE BLOCKCHAIN.
Like I said earlier, they are called the layer-2 tokens because they operate on a secondary layer built atop the Hive blockchain, which itself functions as the foundational layer-1 protocol.
Hive, the layer-1 blockchain, handles core operations like consensus, security, and basic transactions (e.g.with native tokens like HIVE and Hive-Backed Dollars or HBD), but it doesn't natively support extensive smart contracts or unlimited custom token creation without potential scalability issues.
To address this, Hive Engine acts as a sidechain or microservice that leverages Hive's underlying security and infrastructure while processing additional features independently.
This layer-2 setup allows for the creation, trading, and management of tribe tokens like those you've seen in my wallet, such as (WAIV, BEE,ALIVE, PIZZA,LOH and the likes) without overloading the main Hive chain, improving efficiency, scalability, and cost-effectiveness—even though Hive's base transactions are already fee-free.
Communities, games, and projects can build these tokens for specific uses (for example;rewards, governance, or in-app economies) while still benefiting from Hive's decentralized backbone for data integrity and final settlement.
In addition,I found out that Hive-Engine is the underlying smart contract sidechain, but TribalDEX is where most users interact with it practically.
THE MEANING OF SOME OF THEM.
The values in brackets are the various tips I have gotten so far and I am going to improve on them.
WAIV (6.219): This is the token for Waivio, a Hive-based social/review platform. You earn it by creating or curating content there, such as reviews, lists, or posts tagged with Waivio communities. Since your posts on Ecency appear on Waivio automatically, any engagement (likes, comments, or views) could have triggered small author/curation rewards.
BEE (0.02): BEE is tied to BeeSwap (a DEX for Hive Engine tokens) and is often mined or rewarded for providing liquidity, staking WORKERBEE (a related token), or participating in Hive-Engine governance. Small amounts like this commonly come from airdrops, minor trades, or rewards for witnessing/validating on the network.
ALIVE (0.641): From the We Are Alive Tribe, focused on gratitude and daily living posts. You earn ALIVE through staking (which gives daily rewards), posting in their community (e.g#aliveandthriving tags), or receiving !ALIVE tips in comments. If you've shared any motivational or daily update posts, bots or users might have tipped you, or you got curation shares.
LOH(0) this is the most surprising one of them all because LOH means Ladies of Hive as you can see I have zero balance.
Why am I surprised at LOH?
The Ladies of Hive (LOH) is a community on the Hive blockchain that focuses on empowering women, encouraging female voices, and sharing stories about their interests, joys, passions, and life journeys. The LOH token is a Hive Engine token created to reward contributions to this community, and it can be traded, bought, sold, or staked by anyone on platforms like Hive-Engine or Tribaldex.
While the community itself (including its contests) is geared toward women and men generally cannot enter the contests, the token is not exclusively meant for ladies—it's an open token that anyone can hold or receive without gender restrictions.
I likely got a tip in LOH because someone used the !LADY command (a tipping bot feature) in a comment on your post or content, which distributes 0.1 LOH to the recipient as a form of appreciation or reward.
This boosts your LOH balance directly, and it can happen to anyone, regardless of gender, if a tipper decides to use the command on your Hive-related content. The tipper (who must hold staked LOH to use the command) also earns a small LOH reward for tipping.
The others like PIZZA,BBH,NEOXAG,PAY,FUN and the likes are of the same concept. And those with zero balances simply means no earnings yet.
Thanks for stopping by and reading, yours truly @zusi78.
