Yeah this is a big topic in our house atm...
Ive just been on a big health change around the last year. Since covid (chips wine and chocolate after shift work nursing) i put on about 25kg. got up to nearly 80. yikes...
but ive lost 22kg. this year. feel amazing. still a couple to go... but i have slowed down as i need to ensure i keep the muscle. so important. Both my husband and i are big gym people.
My husband is similar to you, stays up late, doesn't sleep well and gets the night time munchies! lol
he eats well. loads of protein and veg, but night time blows the calories. He has managed a little bit off in the last 4 months. but he is struggling.
Its so hard when you are up... writing/working and you are hungry..
As for me. I used Monjaro. BEST thing ever. Despite the cost. Im sure at some point they will tell us its bad... however... my blood sugars. HR. weight. all my bloods everything is all coming back into alignment. You can't tell me that having normal blood sugars again isn't worth any potential risks.
Ive accepted the trade.
Now just into making sure im putting on muscle as i drop the last few KG. I suspect. i will have to focus on the muscle on... then do a weight off.. again.
we will see
25 is quite a lot - how has it felt? When I have put on weight it hasn't been that much in a short time, but I can feel it in what I do and kind of always notice it. Is it the same for you?
That is amazing. I bet you feel different now.
And the kitchen is just there.
Is this supported by medicare or whatever it is there now? It isn't on the list here, though I know there are some people who need it. Finns used to be in pretty good condition and now it is approaching Australia when I left there, while Australia has rapidly closed in on the US.
Yeah its been amazing coming off... it went on super fast with stopping gym, (covid shut them) then just bad food. but coming off has been awesome. certainly feels good.
and for you, if everyone is asleep... whats a cookie or three... if no one can see right? cheese was always my weakness at 10pm+
no its not supported by medicare... they are trying to list it as of 2026 but it got rejected as its so expensive... however if have private health insurance you might get a little back... it needs to go on as its so good for diabetes. Hopefully at some point it will. i think its like $250 - $350 a month for me? which is a lot.... however..... if you count the less food... less extra alcohol that i feel like... and if you are paying for gym and other supplements .... im not sure that it is HEAPS more expensive. However it IS restrictive. if you are breadline it is 100% a luxury that is impossible. 100%.
hopefully PBS accepts it at some point. some of the other ones are on PBS but access is a bit tight. Like supplies are tight.
That isn't too bad considering the price of everything in Oz now, is it?
no it isn't. It goes up if you need a higher dose though... however... its not $1000's which for something so life changing is certainly good. it IS out of reach for many families though. I certainly think the cost to benefit ratio is acceptable.
