Every day, somewhere in the world, a little girl’s laughter is silenced by pain, fear, or shame. The abuse of the girl child is not just a tragedy—it’s an ongoing crisis that eats deep into the heart of our humanity. Despite the laws, campaigns, and loud voices on social media, the silent suffering continues, often behind closed doors and in trusted spaces. This weekend a friend showed me a video of a five-year-old who was deflowered by a 30-year-old man .I could barely breathe as I watched. That image has refused to leave my mind. How can anyone look at a child so innocent and inflict such cruelty? What kind of society are we becoming when the girl child is no longer safe in the home, the school, or even the church? Sexual and emotional abuse leave scars that no amount of time can fully erase. The body might heal, but the mind carries the memory like a heavy stone. These young girls grow into women who struggle with trust, self-worth, and identity. The world tells them to “move on,” but how can one move on from being robbed of innocence before understanding what it means to be a child? We must stop normalizing silence. Parents must listen. Neighbors must speak out. Teachers, leaders, and communities must protect. The girl child should not have to live in fear of the very people who are meant to nurture her. Every act of abuse is not just a crime—it’s a wound to our collective soul. The healing starts when we refuse to look away, when we choose to raise our voices instead of turning our heads. The girl child deserves more than pity. She deserves protection.
