Raise your hand if you're not at Hivefest: A Friday Finance Post

I just did a little calculating on Google Maps, and it looks like I am about 2400 miles away from Rosarito, Mexico. If I hopped in my car now it says I could make it there in 36 hours. Just in time for it to be over. Let's be honest though, I think I could make it in 30!

I think it would be cool to visit Hivefest one year and meet some of the people that I have come to know and admire here on the blockchain. You know the usual excuses though, it's a bad time of year for me, I don't have the funds, I'll be arrested if I ever step foot in Mexico again, blah blah blah.

The fact is, my opening photo from Nevada a couple of years ago is probably the closest I will ever get to Mexico for quite some time. I do want to visit somewhere tropical someday, whether it is Mexico or the Caribbean, I don't really care one way or the other. I was having an interesting conversation the other day on Hive where I mentioned I'd actually rather visit Europe or the UK for Hivefest than Mexico. Nothing against our neighbors to the South, it's just a higher priority on my bucket list.

I'm really bummed I didn't get to go to Krakow a couple of years ago when it was there.

It is time again for another Finance Friday/Friday Finance. This is a series I started where I talk about random bits of financial stuff that I have seen, gathered, or experienced during the week. I hope as a reader you find it informational, entertaining, or both. I also hope it can generate some good discussion and edify the Leo community.

I want to take a quick second and thank @tarazkp for creating this #Reflections community. It gives me a space to do a bit of rambling and space to spread my creative wings.

It's been a rough week if I do say so myself. I'm rolling out Two Factor Authentication to the users where I work and to say it has been a nightmare would be an understatement. You would think I was asking these people to turn over their first born child to me the way some of them are acting.

Between the technically illiterate, and petty union squabbles over them using their personal device as a 2FA method, I am kind of over it. The funny thing is, you know at least 90% of them use 2FA in some form for either their banking or some other eCommerce site.

It's not like I am trying to roll out private and public keys, and explain the intricacies of blockchain to them.

That might honestly be easier!

You best believe I will probably be enjoying one of these tonight after how this week has been!

I did mention this is a Friday Finance post, so I better cover a bit of that as well.

DBOND

I talked about it last week, but the DBOND token is still available for 1 Hive a piece on your Hive DEX of choice. I've been stacking them pretty hard over the past week or so. Actually, I didn't realize the DEFI token on Hive Engine had run its course. Lucky for me, the buy wall was still up and I was able to get about 480 Hive in return for my initial 380 Hive investment.

I figure that isn't too bad. 100 Hive over the course of a handful of years. Sure, more would have been better, but I basically had to do nothing but let the token sit there.

I took that 480 SWAP.HIVE and I move 450 of it into DBOND. There has been some confusion about this, so I feel I should point it out, especially for those holding a smaller stake of DBOND. The DAB drips that come from staking DBOND are not guaranteed. They are based on a lottery system like some of the other mining tokens. Of course if you hold a larger number, you are more likely to be rewarded some in the lottery, but that isn't always the case.

I've seen a couple people come into the Discord and mention they didn't get their DAB drip for the day. The lottery is why. I just wanted to clear that up for anyone that happens upon this post.

Coinbase

Finally, this bit of news I read from Coinbase the other day is pretty exciting. I've been hoping that one of these big players who are starting to invest in crypto would start using their political lobby to push for better crypto rules and regulations in the US.

So far, that hasn't happened yet, but this rally on September 27th from Coinbase could be start.

The "Stand With Crypto" campaign is going to be focused on nine specific states in the US including four states that are considered "swing states". If you aren't in one of those nine states, you can still get involved by contacting your local politicians and asking them to push for reasonable and clear crypto regulation.

Apparently, this initiative actually launched in August and it is going to run for 14 months. If you happen to be in or near Washington DC on September 27th, it sounds like they are going to have a live event, so you might want to keep an eye on that.

At this point, the best thing you can do is contact your lawmakers. Our numbers are growing and it won't be too long before they are unable to ignore them or write this off as a fad or scheme.

I again wish I was going this year and will make it some year for sure. I am apparently 4000km from there and a 37 hour drive. Not so bad! Do you want me to detour and pick you up on the way through?

I have been to Mexico and the Caribbean a couple times in the last couple years and loved it. Seeing it so close to San Diego makes me want to hit that coast even more.

I will have to tune into the live feeds and live vicariously through my blockchain friends that are there representing and growing the network.

Someday man!

Ah, I was thinking 4000 seems like a really long way and it had me thinking I messed up my calculations. Then I realized it was km! Silly metric system! Yeah, in Tijuana wasn't in the way, I might have considered it. I've heard too many stories about that place though. I'm going to have to look into the live feeds too when I get my morning work done.

I would love to go to Mexico again, but just to dangerous for a tall gringo to travel through Mexico these days with the cartel issues. It's really sad, it's a nice place! I still want to pick up some more DBONDS but won't have liquid Hive for a few more days to pick up some more!

There are still some out there, so you might get lucky. I am not sure they are going to blow through 10k of them in a matter of days. You never know though! I hear you about the whole dangerous thing. That is part of the reason we didn't go in the spring when we were supposed to. Sadly, it's dangerous pretty much everywhere these days. Might just need to stay in Michigan!

I am looking forward to a couple of presentations. I have the timetable so will be watching out.

Our drive would be more than 36 hours though lol

Enjoy the livecasts!

Driving down to Halifax tomorrow would be much quicker!

It would, I was almost getting the train with @hoosie but Mrs T and I have to be somewhere tomorrow night.

Aye - got my train ticket booked, and just been to Lidl to load up on snacks for the trip !

Thanks, I haven't even paid attention so I need to look at that. I am sure there are going to be a lot of great speakers there. @starkerz is always interesting to hear when he talks.

Yes, there is something for everyone!

I keep hoping that one day HIvefest will come to me...or at least reasonably close. I mean it IS on the same continent this time but still...

Yeah, I keep thinking the same thing. I think the users in the US would have to run their own thing. I don't think a lot of people from outside the country would want to come here. I think Mexico might be the closest we will ever get. Puerto Rico might be cool given their crypto friendly rules. That one I might try to make it to. Chances are I won't be able to attend one until I am retired.

Well, my hands are up and sadly it is because of finance. I hope you get to mark your bucket list soon. Have an amazing day.

Thanks, have a great weekend! Maybe one day finances won't be an issue for any of us here.

Thank you. Hopefully, one day.

As per my other comment, I'm quite excited to be going to my first Hive meet-up in Halifax in England tomorrow. Plus I've never been to Halifax before, or a coffee roasters - so loads of firsts for me. I'm really looking forward to it, and particularly to meeting folk in person !
I've been picking up more DBOND this week aswell- not a huge amount, just what I could afford, as I think its been a great project so far - the APR seems quite high. And I think the mining lottery works OK, even if you have low amounts - some days you get more, others less -but it averages out over time.
I also started buying some DRIP this week. The APR on that seems crazy - I hope its sustainable.
Anyway - have a great weekend !

Is that tied to the DRIP that is on a different chain? I just noticed today that they are shuttering the main part of that service. That is awesome that you are going to a meet up. It should be a ton of fun. I hope one day we can have a meetup here in the US and I can attend.

I wasnt aware of DRIP being tied to another chain - but I dont know a lot about it yet, but its got daily drips in the native token and SWAP.hive, which seem pretty good.

Interesting. I will have to check it out. I don't really have any spare tokens right now though.

A 4000 miles US/MX road trip almost sounds better than HIVE Fest itself tbh

I guess if you have the right company...

Or no company 😂

Is t
DBOND just a token or what? I am seeing so many posts about it but I don't know what it is.

Yes, it is a token on Hive Engine.

Would be cool to see everyone at hive fest but that means for now I have to get my passport lol Kind of figured I would never go out of country again after all my travels for many years I grew tired of it.

Interesting about the DBONDS I saw them come up about a week ago and started to snoop around and ask questions in BRO as it's been a good while since I've been in there. Thinking about stacking a little more over there over the course of this year.

Awesome news out of Coinbase! Honestly crypto isn't going anywhere and it's crazy seeing how much push back the government is trying to do lol

Yeah, I totally agree with you about the government. It is silly. I have never been out of the country except to Canada. I really need to change that one day. I had a passport at one time because I was supposed to go to China, but it never worked out. Probably a good thing! I'm banking on DBOND being a smart move. Time will tell I guess!

Hello, friend, I hope you can go to a hive festival soon, I would like too. Greetings and blessings 💙🥺✨

That’s its own kind of hell. Teaching people new tech can be so frustrating

Yeah, it's been interesting for sure. The amount of disinterest is what baffles me. I had to finally resort to scare tactics to get them to finally take notice.

Thats a shame you didnt make it to HiveFest this year Bozz, although it is on the same continent, that does seem quite far away. I imagine the border crossing to be something like this:

I'm still looking for the suitcase!

Actually, you can pretty much walk right through the border if you want. That's why we need the wall :P Yeah, it's a bit of a hike. It used to be pretty painless to get into Canada, but even that is a mess now I think.

Someone wrote in the comments , that 2007 was the last year that people could travel to Canada and Mexico without a passport.

That is probably correct. Although in Michigan you can get an "enhanced" drivers license and it lets you get into Canada without a passport I think. It's probably just because we are so close. We have three bridges going into Canada in three different parts of the state.

That sounds pretty cool. I was chatting to one of my colleagues who lives in Michigan last week. He was impressed with my knowledge of the UP gained from reading your posts. 🙂

For real? That is pretty cool! I do my best! I'm glad that someone was able to get something from my posts!

I hope you can get to a Hivefest or similar event some day. I'm lucky I could get to several, but Mexico is too far. The conversations you can have there are excellent. If we can build up the users then local events are more viable.

Have a great weekend.

Thanks you too! Yeah, even though I am not much of a talker, it would be cool to sit in a room with like minded individuals and talk about something we are all passionate about.

I also won't be going. I'm hoping for a Japan Hivefest in the future (although let's be honest, with two young kids, unless it is in my small town chances are I still might not be able to go)

I was going to buy more DBOND, but I decided against it in favor of doing more powerups. I may regret that but oh well, I'm just going to have to live with what I already picked up the in the presale.

Yeah, for sure, you gotta do what you gotta do. No shame in that.
