real estate prices in the US are pretty crazy right now. Even just vacant land over inflated. Things have slowed down a bit from where they were during Covid, but that hasn't brought down the prices much at all. My in laws just bought a new house and it was likely more than what they are going to get for their old one. My wife and I would like to downsize as well, but the cost to do that will most certainly be more expensive in the long run.
Yep. Definitely overinflated prices the last decade. Here the prices didn't go up too much through COVID, like they did in other places. The new apartments though are insanely overpriced, especially considering 11% unemployment.
I think part of it is the fact that building materials have went up with inflation like everything else. Like I said, we are looking to downsize, but I have a feeling if we wanted to build a house half the size of our current house would cost 2 to 3 times more. Lot's going for $80,000 an acre on top of that makes it even worse.
Pretty incredible that once the war in ukraine started, every product happened to have been transported through there. Even all the Finnish wood...
Get one of those fancy motorhomes and live on the road, like in Dusk til Dawn ;)
We have a nice travel trailer and my wife wouldn't mind being a full timer in it once we retire, but I like the idea of having a place to come back to.
Yeah I think I would want a home base also, though it wouldn't need to be much.
