Emotions are not meant to guide us in my opinion, they are designed to grab our attention, and spend it more wisely.
I feel when logic fails then emotions keep us grounded. 99 percent you have to follow the logic but there are circumstances where using logic backfires and you can't ground yourself. That's when the emotions come in. For example while dealing with kids you use logic, kids would hate you growing up. So balancing that is another thing too.
I agree with you. However, it is also possible to train emotional strength, so when logic fails, the emotions trigger helpful behaviors.
