RE: Sunday Funday: 2nd August, 2026

Right now I am facing a bit a dilemma. Till the end of this month I need to make a decision: either to stay with fixed electricity price or move to non fixed plan. Last time I checked non fixed is cheaper at the moment at least. But non fixed price would change at least a few times a year. So in theory it could either stay cheaper, even out or even become more expensive than the fixed price. So I am tempted to stay with fixed plan...

My wife and I did the fixed plan for a while. It made sense when we were on a more limited budget. It's more about just knowing what you need to budget for versus saving money or anything like that.

The fluctuations between summer and winter in Finland are massive - especially when they do "maintenance" on the reactors during peak months. Not much electricity is required in summer - do it then!

I'd rather try to get some kind of solar implementation in place. It probably won't happen at this house. We are in a much better place financially now, so I watch it, but I don't know how much the fixed plan would help. We have extreme temps in the summer and winter on both ends of the spectrum. Sometimes in the same day even.

Long term fixed sounds better, but is it really fixed? Or will they find a way to add some fees or adjust it upwards?

that is a good question. from what I remember they did not do that in the past at least.

Here, non-fixed changes every 15 minutes - in the winter the price are crazy.

that sounds scary.
