"Opinion is the medium between knowledge and ignorance." - Plato
Ask a thousand people and there'd be a thousand different answers.
It's based on location, situation, intelligence, experience, (lack of experience), age, gender, emotional and mental state, financial position, education, familial situation, health and more - it depends on a lot of things combined and not just one.
What matters?
People voice opinions all the time, it seems to be the norm now and social media is where it happens; I guess it's easier to hide behind a keyboard and have strong opinions than have to face someone who may not agree and actually argue a logical case against one's opinion, and it's easy to have strong opinions from behind a keyboard where safety is pretty-much ensured and one can say whatever they like with impunity.
But I wonder...do people's opinions really matter?
I mean, does that opinion matter to those that hear or read it? Do they care? Does that opinion matter in the grand scheme of things generally and does that opinion, taking to the time to think it up, even matter to the person themselves?
My opinion is that, so many of the opinions people have are baseless, unfounded, irrelevant (to them and others) and only voiced to gain a sense of validity and relevance from others because they lack the sense of validity and relevance within themselves. But that's just my opinion.
So...what matters?
I want to know, or would like to know should I say, what matters to you and why.
Feel free to comment briefly below with what you feel matters to you and explain why. It can be anything at all, it's your comment after all.

Family, friends, and God. And not necessarily in that order because they're all interconnected anyway. Family keeps me grounded and remind me where I came from, friends keep me sane and remind me what I've accomplished, and God keeps me humble. Everything else is just bullshit noise pretending to be important.
Indeed, well said and I can feel the conviction and belief you feel in that mantra.
If you read normal social medias, people are just lobotomized, if the TV says the shit is sweet, they will say so and eat it, most of the people are sheep, so their opinion means crap to me... In general I only listen and respect the opinion of brain equipped people, intelligent ones thinking for themselves, doesn't mean they are always right but it's worth the time to listen, like if I'd be talking to Einstein, his opinion would matter, if I'm talking to a partecipant of the Big Brother I'm gonna close my ears shut
Well said, direct and to the point I like it. Social media really is shite man, so fucken shite. But it's got people addicted, fooled them into thinking that it makes them relevant.
And socials amplify the sheep effect, when they see more sheeps like them they get even more dumb-boosted, like legitimacy of the dumb idea
People's opinions don't matter to me but data collection by governments and corporations shows that those opinions do matter to someone.
As for what I care about...being able to live with myself and sleep the sleep of the just:)
I read your post about the GovID thing, it's nuts really, that (here at least) nothing can be done without one. Yes, there's a couple things a person can do in person but it becomes so difficult that people do not and eventually it catches up and people just cave in. When it comes to pensions, aged care, medicare, seniors cards for health and transport, family assistance, etc. no MyGovID means hell on earth. Works out nicely for data collectors.
As for people's opinions, I have no problem with them having one but am very clear about the relevance of the options most have, which is to say no relevance. I'm not on social media but know enough to know people put a lot of importance on their opinion and the feelings of (whatever they think they gain) by voicing them when most of those opinions are not even the slightest bit important to anyone else. They should be more like you, put more stock on what's important to them rather than what other's think.
We have a saying here: "Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one"
Having said that for me opinions of my family matter and our relationships and well-being matter, the rest is secondary.
Same as here, true as well.
Opinions definitely matter, of that there's no doubt; the thing is that not everyone's opinion matters, or is relevant, to others (or anyone at all). It's interesting how people seem to think it actually does matter though. It's all subjective really.
For example, your opinion of me has literally zero bearing on me at all as mine of you does on yourself. That doesn't mean we cannot have those opinions though.
I think one of the problems people bring into their own lives is the belief that the opinion of people who don't even know them matter, like what happens on Facebook when people start keyboard wars over a disagreement of opinion. Dumbasses.
Like you say, one needs to rank opinions in a semblance of priority and for me, my girlfriend's opinion matters the most generally. If I was to have brain cancer I'd probably rate my brain surgeon's opinion pretty highly but some Hive user nutbag's opinion telling me to rub the leaves from the Mogumbio tree onto my noggin to cure the brain cancer would get no rating at all.
So for sure, your comment about your family is legit, and that's my honest opinion.
For the record, the leaf from the Mogumbio tree doesn't cure anything, not even stupidity.
Family, friends, and making the most of the time I have left on the earth.
What, Trump didn't make your list? Lol
Seems like anyone who's anyone cares more about Trump than themselves.
I'm being sarcastic of course. It's good to see some wholesome things on your list.
Haha, no, I try to give him as little space in my brain as possible.
Well, it could have been worse, that rogue Kamala Harris or Hilary Clinton for instance.
What Do I Care?
What do I care about? I care about your nomadic hunter life. As a lover of flora and fauna, I can't imagine how many new plant species I would've discovered if I took your trips. How much medicine would I have discovered? How many edible mushrooms would I have found along the way? How many people would I have helped with my knowledge? How many would I have fed by teaching them to identify this or that plant or mushroom that could be eaten?
Or maybe I could poison someone by discovering the most lethal mushroom possible, like an Amanita, for example.
But what do I care.
Sorry for the long rant, but what does it matter, anyway?
You seem very interested in the natural world and how you can turn it's bounties into a benefit for yourself; I like that. Do you have an opinion on how humankind treat the planet, the damage that is being done and the changes needed to make turn things around and start to reverse the damage?
Before you asking me the scientific name is
Acrocomia aculeata
I love it.
I think it depends who is giving the opinion, if it is someone close then maybe the opinion holds more weight. Then again, regardless, everyone should develop their own critical thinking skills and know what's best for themselves.
I agree with this completely.

It looks like a personal opinion determines what matters to a particular individual. Hence why we have people with divers priorities. Good day to you
