That everyone affirms that it is very old, in fact, the majority of the data, the vast majority, affirm that it is older than the solar system itself and therefore can give us a clue about the elements that gave rise to life, but also 3I/Atlas is an extraordinary opportunity, as has not been seen in a long time, to open a debate to the whole world, to all people, not only in the scientific community, to everyone, about an issue that humanity is going to have to address at some point and perhaps much sooner than we think, I am referring to the discovery of extraterrestrial life, yes, and at all levels.
And not because they come, but because of what we are doing, because we humans are actively searching for extraterrestrial life, from bacteria to civilizations much more advanced than us, it is not because of what they can do, it is because we are actively searching for that, we have been doing it for many years, we search for life in space, we send ships to Mars, to asteroids, to comets, we search with radio telescopes trying to capture radio signals, we have been theorizing for generations of scientists about what these extraterrestrial civilizations could be like. advanced to ours, about what motivations and what morals they could have, about paradoxes such as the Fermi paradox and solutions to that paradox.
It is a serious and profound topic, a topic that we all need to address, not just scientists, because when that moment occurs, when that news breaks that may be of the type that "we have found bacteria on Mars", simply that, a bacteria on Mars, for example, which is not ruled out, because it has recently been discovered that under the surface of Mars several kilometers deep there is liquid water, not water ice, which there is also, reserves of water ice, but liquid water, large masses of liquid water.
The remains of ancient oceans also occur here on Earth. Be careful, under the surface there are large masses of liquid water. The oceans are not hermetic bathtubs, they filter the water and the water continues to go down to the maximum point that it can go down and the same thing happened on Mars, what happens is that Mars has a much thicker crust because it is colder than the Earth and therefore has more space so that those masses of liquid water that were under the ancient Martian oceans could have been preserved.
And of course, if life emerged on Mars, because Mars had enough time for at least bacterial life to emerge, if life emerged on Mars, those bacteria were able to migrate to those layers of underground water, as also happens here on Earth, so it is an issue that we cannot rule out, apart from moons like Enceladus, Saturn's moon, which recently confirmed that Enceladus has the basic elements for life to exist there or on Europa, Jupiter's Moon Europa.
Well, even if it is just the news that there is life in another place outside of Earth, it would change our perception of science and life in the universe radically. To begin with, we would deduce that life is not as difficult to occur as we currently think. If we do not find it, it would also be great news because it would demonstrate that life on Earth is something or was something much stranger than we think.
And we could also discover if there really is a single pattern for life to arise, if there is only a certain combination of DNA for living beings to exist, or it is not a huge variety and they are completely different from us. many enigmas and that news can happen at any time.
