“This is my team, I have built the empire from scratch, now that you came at the very end and want to take the whole credit? Is this some kind of joke on me?” - exactly these are the inner thoughts of our tech lead but can't express right now.
Life has never been fair to anyone, never to me at least that I can confirm, what about you? I bet most of us have severe complaints to make except a few who got fortunate.
So in startup companies, you get to work hard but get paid very little compared to the workload. Well, we kinda accept the fact that these are the starting point to learn, grow, and prosper. We gotta start somewhere, right? So these are the companies that take us in and make us the environment. In return, they kinda grind us as much as they can to bring out the best, and while doing so, we level up.
Just like one, which is transiting from a startup towards an organisation. Things are going to change slowly but steadily. So the team, which was at the starting point, the very first employees. Many left for better opportunities but one is still here, three years in total, not a small timeframe. From being a team member, to the team lead, he has been doing his duties as needed, guiding the team amidst turmoil, delivering promises as they should have been. He had been managing each and every queries of the tech team, problems and all used to be done.
But now? We got a product manager, who's going to lead the team from now on. But wait, the person, who has guided so far, worked on the issues inch by inch, and now that almost 95% of the work is done, we are gonna bring in someone new who is going to be given credit for guiding, lol. This one is so funny. It's not like we won't acknowledge the old, he is there, always for us, but the funny us someone is going to get credit with almost no contribution. After a few days, he is gonna get applause for leading, not the old one by default. That's how the circle keeps going, right?
I asked, maybe after ten to fifteen years old, will we be doing the same. My senior's response was like, “Sure, if you are comfortable digesting some shit stuff. If not, try to be the guy that everyone admires from the heart.”
During these starting sprints, we gotta get prepared to make sacrifices, not everything will be pin point accurate. At least not via your suggestions and stuff. These are some of the versions that we build in essence to fill in the gaps of ourselves. May the initial phases end and we may calculate these credits that we actually meant to own.
So yeah, unless or until we level up our positions, these kinda sacrificial decisions might just come and go. All we can do is cope up with the situation and prepare for the coming days.
