RE: Comment (no) vote

in Reflections3 months ago

A lot of people who comment to me do not vote on my post...they're just fishing for a vote

You answered my question about this later on in the post, but I just want to make sure you're not missing dust upvotes.

It's tough to be a newbie around these parts, tough to know just how to "behave." It was for me anyway.

I'm especially interested in hearing from those who comment only to seek a vote but do not actually vote on the post they comment on, I have some 'special' prizes for you folks.

Do you upvote comments from these accounts even if they do leave an upvote?

I don't upvote comments on my posts very often, and so I do not get these folks bothering to either comment or upvote.

I mostly spend my upvotes as 100% ers on posts at this point. I suppose when I get up to 300k hive, I'll be able to spread my vp around more lavishly than I do now. I really should buy some more hive! It's on the list! I don't know how, now that ionomy is no longer a thing. Lame excuse, I know.

I don't check who votes on me or not, I don't have the time or inclination. I used that to make a point and to allude to slobberchops and his code.

As for the special prizes line, that was me being sarcastic although I'm always happy to hand out prizes...sometimes a downvote is an appropriate one too.

There are many people whose posts I never upvote but I often upvote their comments on my posts. It's engagement I want to reward and if they do it they get it. Besides, they may post stuff I'm not interested in so no votes, but that doesn't mean their engagement has no value. As for the VP...I see the vote as an endorsement so I don't think the value much matters, the fact it's there, and a comment also, can mean a great deal to a very small account. My friend @krazzytrukker will attest to that as I supported him in this way a long time ago which how we became friends in the first place. (There's been others as well of course)

I remember, there was an account who was constantly self voting with very small amounts which made me not want to vote on that account myself. I made a comment to them about it suggesting a better way forward and immediately upon them changing their tune my upvotes rained down upon them in values far bigger than their own upvote...and I still vote that account.

I use this example to show how a small change can make a big difference (I give that account far more than their own self vote was ever going to give it) and that sometimes people are too close to a situation to see it in its entirety. This is why I make posts like this as it may create a course correction for some and that may give me the chance to drop some more votes on them to help the community as a whole.
