The life of a contrarian can be challenging sometimes.
For starters, not sure if everyone knows what "contrarian" means, so here's a quick definition from Google.
Since young, we were always taught to blend in the society, follow the rules, listen to the authority, you get what I mean. While there is nothing wrong with that, and I certainly grew up okay over the years, I think at some point in my adulthood, I started to realise how there were different dimensions to many things in life.
I don't think there was an exact point in time that made me realise, but I certainly didn't prescribe myself to the conventional life cycle that people always say: study hard in school, get good grades, find a good job, get married, have kids, buy a house, retire at 60 (or is it 63 now?), enjoy your remaining years. I did "complete" some of these stuff, but I am not married and I don't have kids. At some point in life, and I guess due to societal norms, it made me question myself whether I am abnormal for being single. But thankfully, I think I am past that stage, and I am very happy and comfortable with my life now.
I also remembered the time, probably back in 2017, where I first saw cryptocurrencies and bitcoin mentioned in the media. Many people felt these stuff were ponzis, scams, etc, and I must admit I also thought so. But several years later, I chanced upon some writings here and there, and I took a closer look, and I realised it can be an investment asset as well. But almost everyone thought I was maybe blinded by greed, and being lured in this gambling "scam". But of course, things got better because I was able to find my own community of people who believed in the idea and future of cryptocurrencies and we were able to bounce our thoughts among one another.
And Hive is one of them. And as I am writing this, Hive is trading at 0.113 USD, which is pretty low by historical standards. Some people have given up altogether and left this space, but there are also people who have taken this opportunity to accumulate more Hive, be it by buying more Hive or just continuing to write posts and engage. No one really knows how things will turn out, and at these dark moments, it's always a test of one's personal conviction. And being a contrarian for most parts of my life, you probably would know my take on this. I will still be around on Hive whenever I am free, and I am still actively posting and curating stuff every other day. And to those who are still around, you know who you are, let's continue to enjoy this journey.
So that's all I have for my self talk this weekend.
P.S. Even though none of this post is about providing financial advice, to be extra clear, I should probably also add that one should do their own due diligence on these things, and I am not promoting or advising any financial or investment decisions. I've been being abnormal for so long and I kinda liked it. I guess when I start being normal, it's almost something is going on with my life haha.
Nice to know that you're comfortable with being single. I don't think it's something to be frowned upon because in the end, this is 2025 and with so much freewill we have, we can be totally self-sufficient.
