Being able to step back or almost outside of ourselves to recognize what we are feeling, thinking, experiencing in an analytical manner is what I consider to be part of our emotional intelligence.

It's easier to react and think and feel in the moment. It's an entirely other thing to have perspective and maturity to understand there is a whole lot more going on than what is on the surface.

We can't stop having the feelings that react to stimuli, but we can learn how to catch them before we react to the feelings and see if they are valid or not. The last few decades though, we have been encouraged to be reactive, not proactive.

These turbulent times definitely require some perspective, emotional intelligence, and a calming spirit. I also think a little prayer is helpful.
