Both Heading One Way

in Reflections4 months ago

Normally, one escalator goes up, the other goes down - but the crypto escalator seems to be heading in one direction only. Granted, precious metals that have been on a run lately are taking a hammering also. It all just smells of more manipulation - but hey, that is the market we have - one that is gamed by the biggest players to keep punishing smaller players, to accrue wealth into a massive pool under very few hands of control.

I am safe.

No one can take my retirement plan away.

Well, they'd have to take all rope-like resources, and tear down all tree-like structures over six feet in height. So, I think I am pretty safe. It will be environmentally friendly also, as it will be Lion Kinging "circle of life" approach.

When we die, our bodies become the grass, and the antelope eat the grass.

Mufasa was all for justifying unnecessary death, as long as he had a full belly.

Sounds like the 0.1%

"You all have to suffer, so that I can have wealth I can never spend in a hundred lifetimes"

It really is hard to justify the economic practices we have created and support, from resource hoarding to debt models that bleed people dry - it is a representation of how unevolved we actually are as a species. Sure, we have made technological advances, but ultimately, we are still acting in the same way as cavemen, in constant fear of not having enough to eat, or being killed by something in the darkness.

Will we ever actually evolve?

I have thought about this often and I think it is a pretty firm yes, but it is going to take conditions that are well outside of our control. Like aliens attacking. The reason is that we are so good at justifying our actions in order to keep doing what we want to do, even though we keep suffering more from it.

Gluttons for punishment.

Like someone who overeats until they can't fit through a door. Or someone who can never be skinny enough, despite looking skeletal. We are made to set our path, and then keep plugging away at it, even though it doesn't work.

We are consistent and predictable.

And because of this, no matter what technological advancements we make, unless there is a pill that gives us enlightenment, we are going to keep on the road to self-destruction at the individual and the macro level of the species. We will eat ourselves into oblivion, with our fuel being anything that we desire, whether food, drugs, money, or sex.

We just can't help ourselves?

We could be doing so much good with the resources we have, making leap and bound advancements in all kinds of tech and social betterment, but instead we are fighting like toddlers over toys that don't matter at all. And at a personal level if we aren't doing what makes us better, we are making ourselves worse. It is the same at the species level. Almost none of what is going on in the world at the moment is making us better, intentionally or unintentionally, it is all just more suffering at the hands of people who desire power.

My retirement plan doesn't sound too bad, does it?

It would actually be an interesting thought experiment. Many talk about the world being overpopulated, but I wonder what would happen if people starting from the poorest decided to just walk off a cliff. How many billions would die before they got to an equilibrium where the top is willing to pay enough to keep the bottom happily alive? Or, would it just keep going until it ends up like Highlander, there can be only one.

While not a pleasant thought experiment perhaps, it is essentially what is happening now in the world anyway. The top is working out how much suffering they can inflict on the bottom and still be able to keep them alive as a resource to keep bleeding. And there is plenty of room to play with, as literally a few billion can die and they would barely be noticed by anyone at the top. It won't be until the top getting the goods and services they want that they will start to question why. Until then, they will keep on inflicting economic harms to satisfy their desires.

And there are still many people who think this economic system we have built and continually support, is working. But perhaps it is only working for those who are getting what they want, eh?

A small group wants the values to go down.

Pity there isn't an influential enough group who have ethical values and want the wellbeing of humanity to go up.

Well, if aliens attacked we would be exterminated. But that is beside the point. Maybe it's not. Maybe that is what we need. A near extinction event to shake us to our senses as a species. A little Walking Dead action possibly.

Maybe that is what we need. A near extinction event to shake us to our senses as a species.

I think this will be the only thing that helps.

A little Walking Dead action possibly.

But like in the walking dead, they keep building the same crap communities again! :D

Lucille!!

Most of my assets are in real estate... But I think this downtown in crypto is actually a good buying opportunity long term and I will be buying more crypto this coming week...

Wish I had something to buy with. Always seems to hit when life is falling apart for me.

I am tapped out in my free cash, but I have some in money market fund in my retirement portfolio where I plan to buy SOL and BTC ETFs...

We often think that our digital life and our physical reality run on separate tracks, but in the end, as you rightly suggest, both are “moving in the same direction”. After more than nine years of absolute consistency here, that direction is no longer just inertia, but total integration.

It makes me wonder if that “single direction” is what really generates long-term value. When what we build in the block ceases to be a “plus” and becomes a true reflection of our own evolution and that of those around us (like Smallsteps). Consistency is not just about posting daily, it is about ensuring that all our facets do not contradict each other along the way. Best regards, Taraz!

Consistency is not just about posting daily, it is about ensuring that all our facets do not contradict each other along the way.

And this is the problem with so much of life today. Everyone is trying to compartmentalise as if each piece lives in a vacuum.

So the lions should have been vegetarian then? 😆

And there are still many people who think this economic system we have built and continually support, is working. But perhaps it is only working for those who are getting what they want, eh?

Well I guess it's "working" for some (to some value of working I think for most of then it's just failing to fill voids that will never be touched the way they're trying to do it) but it just sounds like so much sunk cost fallacy for "everyone else" who wants to pretend it's working.

So the lions should have been vegetarian then? 😆

Not at all. It is in their nature to be murderous bastards - just like humans.

but it just sounds like so much sunk cost fallacy for "everyone else" who wants to pretend it's working.

Yes. And if the masses change their approach, everything changes.

I think humans and dolphins are the only ones that will murder each other just for the hell of it (though humans will generally pretend that they had valid and justifiable reasons).

if the masses change their approach, everything changes

Just keep nudging, it'll get there eventually.

These damn bear markets are so deep that I don't know where to get the money to buy. I'm making the same mistake again—I'm buying too early.

You, me and everyone else.

It is kind of disturbing to think that even with all our advancements in technology, we still hold on these basic fears and behaviors.

Maybe we are destined to burn out fast, so something better can replace us.

Is anything different now than in previous cycles? What do I know?
I don't care, because nothing depends on me. But it hurts, that's for sure.

because nothing depends on me.

We are all just fish in a barrel, waiting for a stick of TNT to be thrown in :D

I might add that people on the other side of the profits keep asking whether this system is sustainable, the real question is Sustainable for who?. Because it’s clearly not meant to sustain everyone. The system or markets are working exactly as designed.

A global insurrection is overdue, I think. I've been hammering on that. I think the ICE situation in the US can serve as the catalyst for that, supposing the US government doesn't stitch the bleeding wound caused by excessive use of force by Trump's government.

From the US it can spread to other nations. I think we know enough how animals react when they are cornered--to the point their existence is threatened.

Humans are very much the same, and I think we've reached the point of our existence being in danger.

Comfort and convenience are our biggest enemies as far as progress and success are concerned. That's why we keep looking for more and more comfort from our problems even while they keep crushing us. The earlier we give up our convenience the better for us.

The market situation seems to be such that if the bear market starts in full swing, our coins will sink to the bottom of the ocean. It's as if big whales are competing to eat small fish.

It’s hard to find that group with ethical values you mentioned, but at least posts like this keep the conversation honest.

Hive Power Up Day - February 1st 2026

We’ve improved our technology, but not our values. We still act out of fear and the need to have more.
What stood out to me is how predictable humans are. Systems don’t need to care about people if they can understand and use human behavior. Desire keeps everything running.
The big question is whether we will ever change by choice, or only when we are forced to. Thinking about this matters because it shows who the system is really built for.
I believe Markets are meant to balance, but when a small group controls the rules, the movement stops being natural and becomes planned. The system doesn’t feel broken; it feels like it works very well just not for most people.

We are conditioned, indoctrinated, programmed to “live” in a perennial state of survival, yes, as if we were in the caves. With a nervous system in chaos, spending on the unnecessary, chasing ideals in the sea of nonconformity. I think it is time to “need” them less, to move to the simple, and we will see how the balance begins to favor us.

Everything is just in the trash right now. It's best to focus on other things and not really think about it too much. I'm so glad I am diversified enough that it won't be a big deal either way.

It's true that the manipulation system moves slowly but surely, their economy is controlled and small economies are defeated. Rich investors remain perched on top and find it difficult to get off. They maintain their wealth and status. This makes technology have the key that can make the economic system rise or fall drastically, causing people to suffer. My opinion. Thank you.
