While in the garden today, Smallsteps spotted a little dragonfly on the fence, and while I got a picture of it there just, it flew awkwardly away and then onto the grass. One of its wings was crushed, so it wasn't able to do much else. And this set up a bit of a problem, because Puusti the Dog was running free and Smallsteps was very worried that he being what he is, will eat it as soon as he sees it. So, she stood nearby, one eye on the dragonfly, the other on the dog - until eventually the dragonfly mustered up strength enough to get out over the fence.
A job well done.

Even though she already knew that the dragonfly, which had perhaps already had a close call with a bird, wasn't going to last long in the wild, when racing toward imminent doom, it is still better to do something, than nothing. Yet I feel that a lot of us have the "if you can't beat them, join them" attitude, because it is the simplest thing to do. If it all goes to shit, at least everyone else is in shit also.
We are all covered.

I was reading a "parenting tip" given by Sam Altman from OpenAI that suggested:
Connect your family calendars and explain your kids’ interests. Every morning for the drive to school, have it make a podcast that talks about one kid’s soccer game that afternoon, one kid’s upcoming birthday, some news, etc.
So, rather than taking a genuine interest in the children who as parents we keep claiming to say that we love, have their best interests at heart, and want them to be happy - we will outsource parenting to AI. And while the response to the statement on the internet was the expected lambasting of the suggestion, I can guarantee that a large percentage of parents will be doing what he has said, or some version of it. Because, we have been outsourcing parenting at an increasing rate for decades already, using screen content to occupy young minds, activities to keep them out of the way, and all manner of entertainment to limit the time we have to actually spend with them.
Well, many of us.

The technological takeover is inevitable, but speeding up the process by joining whilst simultaneously not finding solutions to dealing with the shift in society, really is just stupidity, isn't it? Of course, we tend to take the "I can't do anything about it" approach too, to absolve us of responsibility - as if makes what we do alright.
While we were eating lunch, Smallsteps was asking about good and bad people and we got into a discussion that those who have done the greatest harms in this world, tend to think of themselves as good people doing what is right.
Fight for what you believe in, do what you love, stand up for your team.
I also added that no matter what an individual does, there are going to be people who disagree, mentioning my rule of thirds of "one third will like you, one third will be indifferent, one third will dislike you" in this life. For everyone who thinks they are doing the right thing, two-thirds are likely to disagree to some degree at least. It is inevitable.
However, while we can find a thousand reasons to justify our bad actions, citing family or environment, or nation, or culture or some other aspect that we identify with, is this acceptable? Is it acceptable to use "I do it to provide for my family" by selling drugs to children? Is it okay to say "it is in the best interest of the country" by generating profits and tax revenue through activities that cause harm, like smoking?
Good or bad.
Should it depend on our opinions?

This world is a cruel place where almost every creature serves as food for another. And only kind children try to save everyone.
Wouldn't it be a better world if adults acted more like kind children?
I don't know. Maybe. If a mechanism to stop evil were created—something like points for good and bad deeds... but that sounds like a plotline from Black Mirror :)
Children can be very cruel also :)
One thing I am sure of is: this world is a utopia, if kids start running it. And more importantly, good parenting! Sam Altman may not like it, because you have done this without AI. Though few sane people will not be impacting much of his/their business; but the system is not letting a single one escape. The system demands absolute dependence. And as you have said, parents will surely be following, just because this specific person has said this.
Whether the dragonfly survives or not, at least she played her role. Wish we could be like this, playing our roles just out of pure kindness. Without any meaning attached for us :)
I don't think it matters who says it these days - as long as it requires less effort to do something, that is what people will choose.
It was a pretty dragonfly too - quite golden. When older, they shine more :)
Well for some parents AI is actually going to improve their parenting. And in general AI is kind of like a new Google. Basically a knowledgebase of the humanity.
Not at all, because it is able to substitute actions. No encylopedia created a podcast for a child.
good teamwork and cool photos. I did a few posts with flower photography. While taking photos of flowers I also wanted to take a photo of a butterfly. But it was faster than me...old age sucks.😛
butterflies require a longer lens usually, because they are so skittish. :
it's a shit sandwhich at times, just eat it! :P or fight it... that's good too.
u mean EVERYONE doesn't like me??
No! 2/3 don't like you!
:( ahhh, oh well. i'll just get a dog then.. ;)
Innocent children never think badly of anyone, while some animal-like people are always on the lookout to put others down. While upholding human rights, we must be tolerant towards everyone.

And some innocent children pull wings of insects.
Protecting someone should not mean solving their problems. It should give them the space and encouragement they need to recover at their own pace.
These are great shots of the dragonfly. Glad you find time, I should say you make time to spend with family.
So much is going on we tend to hope for the best.
Keep on the good work.
The distinction between taking action—like Smallsteps standing guard over the dragonfly—and simply adopting a passive "if you can't beat them, join them" attitude is so spot on. The Sam Altman example highlights how easily convenience can erode real human connection. Using tools to organize life is one thing, but outsourcing the emotional involvement of parenting takes away what actually matters. Just because a technology or justification is convenient doesn't automatically make it right. Great post as always!

That just seems absolutely lazy. It's funny how people feel that technology needs to be used to solve problems that really have no connection to technology at all!
I think I'd rather just talk to the kids. We had so many great conversations in the car to the point that other homeschooling parents experiencing the same called it carschooling XD
